insane specs on thermaltake smartfan?

did anybody else notice that the listed specs for the 80mm smartfan from thermaltake (comes on volcano 7's) seem a little out of whack? at it's slowest setting, 2900 rpm, it's supposed to push 46 cfm of air at 27 dba of noise?!?! come on! anybody wanna tell me how it really performs? am i reading the specs wrong? anyway... been lookin for some quiet fans for my case... and if it does perform insanely well... is there a way to modify it to always spin slow? need some advice here.

hmmm... haha... i guess thermaltake exaggerates fan specs, eh? well, judging by the other topic i found when i searched for smart fan, they do. sounds abut right, seeing as my volcano 6cu seemed to have all too friendly specs on the fan as well. meh... oh well... guess i should spring for a higher quality, honestly specified fan. would have been so cool if everflow (unknown aside from tt products) just happened to make amazing fans tho.

Yeah, ThermalTake exaggarates the specs of their fans a lot.
Another example would be the 60mm fan on the DO3: 38cfm @ 37dba, the Delta Screamer (which pushes that much air) is more like 46db. When Anand reviewed the DO he said it was 63db! (the Delta were 61db).
So don't believe a word of what TT says about their fans, to get the real specs of 'em read some reviews!

<< Dragon Orb 3 killed my processor and made a noise like a drill... Thermaltake, never again... >>

The same happened to me, my DO3 crushed my 1.4 T-Bird, today I use it as a fancy paperweight or throw it at people I don't like (instead of stones 😀).
I don't like TTs cpu coolers anymore, will never use one again, but I still use their chipset/gfx-card hsf's I must admit. I use a Crystal Orb on the northbridge of my MSI K7T Pro2 RU mobo as it only came with a heatsink. But trusting one of their products to cool a cpu safely, never again!

Yeah, my old Mini Super Orb was rated as having one fan at 24db and one at 28db if I'm correct.. yet the thing was louder than my five 24db Panaflos I have now and cooled much worse.. I idled at 54 and at load I was around 60.
