Over at Crucial website, they have a kit on sale for $100.00 off regular price for a Ballstix kit for the EVGA 680i MB. The mkit # is : BL2KIT6464AA1005 and its description is :

Crucial Part Number: BL2KIT6464AA1005
Module Size: 1GB kit (512MBx2)
Package: Ballistix 240-pin DIMM
Feature: DDR2 PC2-8000
Specs: DDR2 PC2-8000 ? 5-5-5-15 ? UNBUFFERED ? NON-ECC ? DDR2-1000 ? 2.2V ? 64Meg x 64

Does anyone have experience with this memory? Is it okay memory to use in an 680i MB for initial stock usage?

I will be purchasing both an Evga 680i MB and their 8800GTX GPU soon, so I am in need of some memory to go along with it. I plan to initially only use the board at stock speeds, until the summertime.

The question is... are you new to overclocking?

If you are, then this board may not be for you. It has many bios options which make this board have a huge learning curve compared to the traditional intel chipset boards.

but to answer your question...

it should properly boot. i used to have the crucial ballistix pc6400 and it booted up at 1.8 volts at 266 mhz fsb or default

I habe it, and had to up the vdimm +.4 to boot using other memory, and then swapped memory, and then it booted.

To answer your question,

Not really new, but haven't overclocked anything in almost a decade! So, I'm re-experiencing this all over again. I want the system to last as long as possible. Last system I built lasted 8 years.

worst case scenario.. you'll have to buy el cheapo pc-5300 or slower memory (like a 256 meg stick) and boot up with it, change the voltage to 2.2 then stick in your crucials :)

EVGA Board boots with 1.9 default. Will boot any ram. All the crucial sets are the same. SPD data is transferable between all of the sets. Ciao.
