haha, Dell is going to have like an SRT or a SVT program for computers.

what do you think XPS is?
The XPS line is substandard "high power" computers. Overpriced, lack luster in their performance and loaded with bloatware. They are also minimally expandable/upgradable.
Merely a "high end" consumer grade computer.

It's the perfect case for people who own 75bhp Civics with 8 foot wings on the back. You'll make a good first impression on visitors from space, as the first thing they'll see from up there is the glint of your flimsy bright neon case.

From a hardware perspective, I think a lot of us would agree give me $1800 to spend and I could build you a rig out of quality parts that would kick the crap outta both AlienWare and Dell XPS. What we couldn't do is make you feel good cause "dude you got a dell", wait by the phone 24/7, answer questions when you can't figure something out yourself, ship you replacement parts, etc. etc.

I think Dell is great and has excellent customer service, but fact is that's a big part of what you're paying for. I'll stick to homebuild myself, but if you aren't that into do-it-yourself then please buy Dell.

XPS and Alienware are the same thing

Any kid can build a better desktop, but the places where XPS and Alienware are at their best are in their laptops...

That is exactly right. There are selling a name, an image, and a promise. They aren't selling a quality computer.

Having bought 2 dells, an alienware, and host of other brands of machines, I would say I would rather have a dell or alienware over any other brand. Most of you haters don't have the experience to say either way and need to keep it to yourselves.

Are you still trying to take credit for mechBgon's work in your sig?

Regardless, admitting to having bought a garish looking, horribly overpriced AW system pretty much negates whatever credibility you may have had here. Dells have their place; you can't build a 'net & email rig cheaper than their budget machines, but AW is an utter ripoff.

I don't take any credit, and I asked mech before putting that link in my sig which he can attest to. It's there to be helpful.

And since you have absolutely zero knowledge to make any claims as to my taste in computers, I will enlighten you. No other manufacturer, even Dell, could make my AW cheaper than AW offered it for. Specific pieces of the machine was not available at the time on the market individually, and few manufacturers had them either. It was the cheapest way to build this machine. That is why I have an AW, no other reason. No arguement in the world can stand up to the fact that you literally could not build my computer yourself nor find it cheaper on the market.

*shrug* If I wanted a bleeding edge system, I'd have waited a month for resellers to have the parts, then built it myself for half the price. On top of the savings, not having a case that looks like it should be attached to the trunk of a lowered Civic would really seal the deal 😛

mBg's a great guy, I'm sure he did give the OK. It still looks like you're trying to take credit for his work, which I'm sure is no mistake.

Friend of mine bought an Alienware laptop. That thing is nice. Was it worth the money? maybe, if i had the money to spare i'd probally get one.

The one catch is it isn't the most portable of machines (obviously...) and that it gets hot.. he keeps a small washcloth between his palm and the palmrest to stay comfortable 😛

The resellers didn't have the parts a month later. It was quite a while before they were out, and I needed it then not later. Who cares what the case looks like, it sits on the ground out of sight. I will admit, it is a lot larger than I expected. Lots of empty space inside too.

I am not trying to take credit for mech's work. I liked his website and how he helps people so I wanted to help, he allowed it, there it is. Why in the world would you think I'd simply be trying to take credit for it? I've never even recieved a single PM about it, let alone any thanks for the link, I get nothing out of it. If someone did say something about it, I would point out it is mech's site, not mine.

If you weren't subtly trying to take credit for it, you'd denote that it's his work in the sig. Pretty simple.

As for the AW, I don't understand why you needed a bleeding edge system at that one precise moment in history when they had access to parts not available to the general public for a while. Regardless, a one time thing is nothing to base opinions on. AWs remain horrendously overpriced mosntrosities.

is there a REAL link, other than the inquirer?

edit: doh, guess i had to click the link to get a more respected link.

I've been reading the INQ forever. If the INQ says the sky is purple, it's purple. I have never known them to be wrong. Ever.

I copied Mech's link exactly like his, it's identical. If he really cared to have his name on it, he would have said something by now, he has not. This is ridiculous that I have to defend myself for trying to help people.

I also do not have to defend any reason why I bought my AW, because you still have zero arguement against it. It was the cheapest for what it had in it, and you couldn't build it for cheaper. You have zero defense for that. One thing may be expensive one day, and cheap the next. The more expensive machines are Voodoo PC's, but I'd take a Voodoo over anything you could build any day.

Fixed!

Depends, it's hard to beat them on budget systems but their gaming rigs are up there in price.. but with the cheapest parts you can find 🙁

I have purchased "gaming" rigs that were cheaper than parts alone.
