Input device problem

Unsure what has happened by my wife's laptop is down...the mouse no longer functions correctly and I can't figure out why. Left click brings up the usual right click propreties box and right click, rather than doing left click duties (which I guess I could understand) just flashes something then closes again. Also, start button won't leave the menu list open, just flashes it open and closed.
It's a Toshiba laptop with Intel Centrino M chip, Logitech wireless mouse (but I disconnected mouse and still have same prob with touchpad).
Any ideas?

Steve

(I'm new...with apologies I posted this in Technical Support too, not sure where was best. Thanks)

Have you tried switching the buttons in Cntrl Panel/Mouse? Does connecting the external mouse disable the touchpad? Is there a BIOS setting for that?
