Inkjet refill kits?

Hello all. I've been looking for a good color printer for a while, and the i850 (~$125 /w shipping and tax) deal in the hot deals forums combined with its reviews made me just buy one. I have a question about ink though. Canon inkjets already have the cheapest carts on the market, but the inkjet refill kits for this printer look like a steal. I've heard from friends though, who I consider very compitent with computers, that you run a large risk of clogging your heads if you use refill kits with some printers, most notoriously Epson's. My question is this -- is it really as easy to clog the heads with the refil kits as they claim, or is this just some hearasy probably stemming from the printer manafacturers?

It's true to a certain degree that using a refill kit can clog up the print head. I've used it in the past for a HP printer but it was messy & didn't like the quality so I stopped using it. Also, I believe a clogged print head is the Epson's biggest problem despite very high quality results from the printer. With my i850, I just buy generic inks from megatoners.com which cost me approximately $1.5~$2/each (b/w is cheaper than color). I've been using it for about 7 mos. and it hasn't given me any problems yet. The ink quality is as good as the original canon ink cartridges (I use high quality papers though).

Stick with your generic-brand refill cartridges if you want to save money.

Wow, megatoner.com is really dirt cheap. That sorta makes the question a moot point, thanks for the pointer.
