I want to try a few of these, but in this thread, Souka says (01/27/2006 05:19 PM) that the ink easily smears even after it dries, and it was suggested to spray them with clear paint.
Has anyone had any that do not smear? Is it only certain media brands/types that smear, or maybe certain printer inks that will or will not?

the ink is water soluble

i've read about people using the spray clear coats with good success
just have to be careful not to get it on the data side

Paper labels are more resistant to smearing - but with ink-jet ink it's hard to make really waterproof. The wax ribbon printers from Casio or Primera are much more smear-resistant, but they can't print as fancily or on the whole surface of the disk. And the cost per disk can be quite high in time and materials when attempting multicolor labels.

I don't want to use labels for a few reasons.

Spray paint won't hurt the plastic?

Anyone found any that CDs/ink that don't smear?
Or have done a lot of spray painting them successfully?
Does spray paint not eat plastic CDs?

What about just go with lightscribe? It sure don't smear although it's plain and non complicated. As for clear coat spray, No it doesn't affect the performance of the CD.
