ive heard about a program called InkSaver and im sure its not the only of its kind and basically im just wondering how reliable these things are? has anyone used them? does it really save ink and not compromise quality?

Yes, check your printer driver settings. If all those programs do is leave out some of the ink, you'll just end up with a lighter, less solid version of your printout, not unlike draft mode though quality might be somewhere in between.

I use a laser and don't worry about toner saving with the much lower cost per page.

As others have stated, you use less ink/toner with lower quality results.
For personal work, it is fine, not for presentation or professional purposes.
