I wanted to see if anyone has had a wrist injury like this before. Basically I played in a softball game 5 weeks ago and noticed the next day "Wow my wrist hurts a bit". Well, weeks went by and I'm still unable to use it fully. I'll try and describe the symptoms as best I can.

It's the left wrist. The pain comes from the left side of the wrist if you lay your hand down flat, palm down. It can generally shoot up to my pinkie or up my forearm at times.

It only hurts in certain situations. I absolutely cannot "push" myself up or do anything where I'm pushing away from myself. I can't push out of a pool, off the ground, do ANY lifting whatsoever that involves pushing. Severe pain if I do that.

However I can pull just fine. I can pick things up and grip with generally with no pain.

I don't have health insurance until school starts at the end of September. I've Google'd wrist injuries and I can't figure out a layman's diagnosis. Typing doesn't hurt either. But if I even think of pushing at all it hurts really bad.

It's getting really depressing. What can I do to make this go away? Or is there perhaps a site where I can ask this question and get some answers?

Thanks

You can try to ice it and take ibuprofen to speed healing, but you're not gonna be able to get a solid diagnosis without going to the doctor. The hand/wrist has a lot going on and a professional opinion is needed. Ice it for 15 min on, 15 min off when it starts to bug you. It'll help a lot.

Thanks for the reply SC. I foolishly haven't iced it at all since the injury. I'll start doing that. I thought maybe it was beyond the point of icing it since it had been 5 weeks. Perhaps a wrist brace will help. I obviously am using it in some capacity constantly and I think it just keeps getting reaggravated.

A wrist brace would definitely help with immobilizing it until you can go to the doc. Sure, you can ice any joint/muscle that hurts at any time. Hope it feels better, bud.

The question is: Is your wrist getting better, even slowly? If yes, then you may just need more time. Certain joints and tendons and ligaments can take fvcking forever to heal, like months. If your wrist is not getting better, though, I would do all you can to find a physician because if it's not getting better after five weeks there's a good chance it won't.

It is getting better...I guess...but VERY slowly. When it first happened, I couldn't bend my pinkie or ring finger back at all..now I can. But I seem to aggravate it doing every little tiny thing. It still hurts to the touch, but I can certainly do more with it than, say, 2-3 weeks ago.
