Injured Iraq Vets Come Home to Poverty

I have little doubt this issue will be take care off.

There should have never been an issue to begin with. This kind of treatment of these young men and women who have served our country flat out sucks.

It's now being taken care of since Prime Time has stepped in. It shouldn't have taken the media to step in for the government to treat these people right!!!

For God's sake...watching it on Prime Time.....the Army told an injured soldier to repay his enlistment bonus because he couldn't finish his tour of duty and then placed it on his credit report as an unpaid loan. That is Bullshit!!! (Now...after Primetime has stepped in....it's taken care of)....regardless, to knowingly do this is bullshit!!! :|

True. It is being fixed. It should never happen but when it does, it should be fixed quickly and it looks to be getting fixed atm.

I wonder how long it would have took if a large network program like Prime Time hadn't stepped in? This is not the first stories of this kind of treatment of our soldiers. We expect them to give their lives, if necessary...but we give them broken promises and credit deliquencies!!!

The Pentagon really needs to take a close look at why it took over a year to offer financial support to injured vets.

Boggles the mind.

Watching the news 3 or 4 nights ago....our soldiers were in one of the newly retaken cities of Iraq with a box of new $20.00 bills (About $500,000 worth). They were going business to business and house to house paying up to $850.00 in pure new US cash to the Iraq people for damage. Our tax money can be given out for this shtz and we treat our troops the way we are?

BS. P|ss on the Pentagon for this treatment!!! :|

Yes, I'm fvcking mad!!!

And what more can anyone do except be pissed that it happened and make sure it's fixed? That's right - nothing. It happened - it's being fixed. I'm pissed, but you know what? It doesn't change much. It's being fixed - which is what needs to happen at this point.

As far as I'm concerned, the whole damn command center from the TOP to the Pentagon has screwed up....for going in.....for the falsehoods......and now for the terrible treatment of many troops!!!

It's an oversight and I'm not talking about a year or two ago.

How the Hell do you plan to send over 100,000 troops into a country that you are going to war with and not setup the support system for the consequences.

This is not just outrageous but outright incompetent.

EDIT: Forgot to add that this has been going on for a long time and it started way before Iraq.

And I'm taking the same stand as you. This incident, and the others they didn't spell out the details of, are outrageous and pisses me off. Ofcourse you take it to the political realm to feed your hatred of Bush(dislike, ultra-unlove, whatever you wish to call it).
This man didn't deserve to be treated that way on the money/bill/credit situation but he also doesn't deserve to be used as a pawn in your political game.

Wow, I'm glad to see such concern for the financial welfare of American servicemen. I hope this is still as important an issue to you all six months from now...when there's no election to be won or lost.

With the size of our Government, these types of problems are not rare. There are many powerful groups that can effectively lobby the bureaucracy to get results for the veterans with needs. (VFW and the American legion are just a couple names you may recognize )

I agree that the need for such a group to get what you are due is a bit preposterous.

Contributing and volunteering your time and money to these groups will go a long way in over-riding some of the systemic failures that exist in our government agencies and in the administration of their policies.

Lobbying for reform where the problems exist may even effect change.

Sitting on your ass, whining, and being outraged about it, might seem like the politically correct thing to do for some of you but it will accomplish nothing.

This crap has been going on FOREVER, through Republican and Democratic administrations alike.

The VA is one of the most incompetent, unresponsive, slipshod bureaucracies in our nation's history. The horror stories are legion.

You're right. I'm going to write a few congressmen and Senators. It might not do anything, but at least they'll know what I'm thinking and the problem needs to be addressed.

And then I'm going to Vote.

This is why John Kerry is head and shoulders above Bush. He understands these things. I believe Kerry realizes that when these kind of sacrafices will be made because of war, it has to be for the right reasons and in the right way. Its shame that the so many people think a man who can walk around with his arms flared out and talking stuff, he's a tough guy. No he's a fool. Its easy to send folks to do something you didn't do when you had the chance. As a manager I've held true that I would never have an employee under me do something that I myself wouldn't. A true leader leads in deeds as well as words. Bush and Cheney have plenty of words, but when the time came to do deeds, they were not to be found. This is a sad story only because these lives have been ruined and lost by a leader who is quite frankly not capable or earned the right to lead.

John Kerry has been in the senate for 20 years and the understanding he has for "these things" is demonstrated by the condition of the system that we are discussing.
