Initializing new SSD

Device is a Samsung ATIV9 notebook running Windows 8.1. It needs a larger SSD.


I'm trying to initialize a new M.2 SSD for my wife's notebook computer. I have installed it into a USB 3.0 converter and can see it from Acronis true image as an uninitialized drive when I run Acronis, but when I try to run disk management I do not see the disk to initialize.

How do I gain access to it to initialize?
