INGDirect Checking Account

I was reading over the INGDirect interest bearing checking account. It sounds intruiging, but I had a couple questions that I couldn't get answered in their FAQ.

1) Can I purchase paper checks and use them for this account?

2) What is the overdraft limit that is typically given on the account?

1) I just ordered some myself so I would say yes unless I hear otherwise.

2) its $250 over whatever you have in the account.

1) You can not use paper checks of your own at all and the site says clearly somewhere, "do not order your own checks". However they can send one out for you to a recipient. If you need a voided check to give someone so they can do an ach debit transfer from your account, you can print out a standard voided image of one on the site to give the payee a check number and/or a copy of the check image for their records.

2) The overdraft is always defaulted to $250 for everyone. I don't know if you can call and successfully request more than that.

The ach transfers to recipients are nice, where you input their routing number and account number. They also have quicken/money downloads from the site. I use occassional but critical money wires, and that absence is probably the only thing that keeps me from completely converting from Chase.

I got this in November last year....it's awesome.

I get better rates then the Savings account....and a Debit Card!!!

You can also send digital checks to people that they can accept via Email. It's really nice and FREE!!! DOWN WITH PAYPAL!

My only problem with it is their lack of a large atm network and that I can't walk into a bank b&m and hand over (deposit) checks into to my account.

So if I need to cut a check to say the kid's school or for girl scout cookies it sounds like I'm outta luck.

Also, can you have a certified check issued?

Only thing is that my checking account is BoA due to there being 2 BoA ATMs on each block. Otherwise, Id be using INGDirect Checking as well!

I've got $1000 line of credit overdraft, but I've been there since they first offered it.

I believe its $125 now.

The charles schwab checking account looks better. Refund ATM charges and you can use checks. I only glanced at both options though so might have some catch.

I need to make too many paper check deposits, and I wouldn't feel comfortable sending the checks to them in the mail.

Also, their ATM network sucks compared to my current B&M bank.
