ING Direct vs. HSBC Direct

OK, so HSBC direct is 5.05% APY, and ING is 4.35%. The former seems like the better deal. Anyone have any bad experience with the former where I should keep the latter instead?

I'm too lazy to switch my millions over to HSBC from ING. Besides, I like ING's web interface and ease + speed of transactions. Never dealt w/ HSBC.

I have savings accounts with both. I do not carry a balance in my HSBC savings anymore and I use ING now completely for my savings. I am aware that HSBC and a few other banks offer a higher yield, but ING has always been easier to use IMO.
 
I switched from ING to HSBC and I'm happy. The extra APR makes up for the slower transactions at HSBC.

It's worth giving it a try.
 
i have both...

of course ING is easier to set up and maintain....but the difference in APR was too great for me. i made the jump, but still have money in both
 
i have both and have considering moving my $ from ING to HSBC

it's a hassle though, and would rather keep it if ING will raise their rates again any time soon

can someone comment on transaction speeds at HSBC? I am too, contemplating on moving from ING to HSBC.
 
split second for me. i have hsbc account and have funds going from online account to my checking account literally takes nanoseconds

i heard its pretty fast. when I transfer funds to another citibank account of mine it usually takes about 2 days?
HSBC = best damn bank evar
 
I dunno hsbc is pretty secure and the rates rock, but im too lazy to go through the deposit/transfer process, they make it a pain.
 
I think I am going to open an HSBC account. Are there any referral bonuses I can give to someone like ING direct?

I feel if I just sign up w/o helping someone else out would be a waste, PM if there are any bonuses.
 
Wow, now I regret looking at Wamu. HSBC direct's interest checking account is free with direct deposit ..... sure its only .25%, but still....
 
i have both. hsbc transactions are a bit slower, website not as slick, but i still use it as my primary.
 
I have no problem dropping EmgraintDirect for HSBC(in the process right now)
EmgraintDirect is a complete joke. If you want to add funds via a 2nd account you need to MAIL a check. HBSC i'll be getting a debit card and there are local branches I can use the ATM at, in addition tp EFT setups.

BTW why are you complaing about slower transactions?
5% on a SAVINGS account!!! So it takes a few days to get funds.
Try waiting 12 months to take money out of a CD.
 
FYI, there are some good savings rates (APY as of 7-1-06)

Presidential 5.12
HSBC 5.05
Citibank 5.0
Emmigrant 4.8

I'm getting 5.15% thru Ford, but mine was an invitational offer. I ignored the first offer, being 4.70%, but about a month later, a different offer came.
 
ING cancelled my account after they said I didn't update my info. I did over the phone, and yet they still axed my account. So f' ING Direct. I'm gonna open an HSBC account in a few weeks. You cannot go wrong with the second largest bank in the world. 🙂
 
I like HSBC, other than their money transfers are a bit slow. It's OK though- prevents me from impulse raiding my savings.
