It's also interesting to note that each account holder is limited to 25 referrals. SO it's not an unlimited resource.

Yes, that's why I only send referrals to those that want it (as should everyone else). I hate SPAM myself so I always ask people if they want it before I send it.

It's not a problem because if a referral you send doesn't get used in 30 days then its spot on your referrals list gets freed up.

so many interest bums lately. at this rate, ing will surpass emgrant in no time LOL.

psss, I have referrals to give also. 😀

Are there any limits on how large the account can be? Would say 40k+ be a bad idea to put into a 3.25% APY savings account?

It takes a few business days for transfers to go through to your bank account. Put in as much as you want below the FDIC insurance limit (100,000) and you're fine as long as you have money at hand for emergencies. If you put as much as possible into an account like ING or ED, then you won't have direct access to your money in case of an emergency.

Super hot especially since you get $25 for opening an account.

Edit:
To get the $25 for opening an account, you need to get an email from an existing member. PM me with your full name and email if you need one.

shameless referal!

I feel that it's only fair for me to state again that the above statement is not necessarily true. I got $25 when i signed up and I wasn't referred.

That said, it may be easier to do through an emailed referral rather than goggle a code or what have you (I think I got an offer in the mail with the offer code).

I swear, if some people who are so eager to give referrals applied that energy towards something like thier job or mowing the neighbors' lawsn or something they coudl easily make a lot more money.

It's an AnandTech thing...welcome to the Forums. Us members work together to help one another. You choosing to not use an existing AT member to help them with a referral shows your "newness" around here. We have a long history of helping each other out in any way possible! That's why this forum is big as it is. Sure, we have a number of Aholes, but we have an even bigger number of friendly, helpful people who ban together to create this fine forum be it a Hot Deal, computer advice or even to sell our unused hardware. It's the AnandTech Magic! 🙂

A few months back a friend refered me to ingdirect.com. I decided to sign up and see how it worked.

I can honestly say that I've been very satisfied so far. The interest rates have gone up 3 times since I joined so that's a plus. The interface is simple and fast. The only thing is that if you plan on using it as a short term savings thing, it takes about 5 days to put money in and about that long to get it back out. So if you're saving for an emergency and something happens, i.e. car trouble, it's going to be like a week before you get your money. Other than that it's awesome and I would highly recommend.

Actually I never knew that, I'm already a member and when I signed up, I think I asked someone here for a referral. My original intention was just to inform people of the new ING rates, but since everyone else was offering emails, thought I'd do the same.

And btw, I have a full time job, go to school, and do misc work on the side just so you don't get the impression that I sit around asking for referrals 😉

I wish i got a referrel before i setup.. missed out on $25 🙁

now that i got an account i can give referrels also, PM me

I opened the account before I joined AAT, or when I was so new I wasn't part of the community yet.

After participating in many trades, and taking advantage of a hot deal or two I too feel the sense of community. All things equal yeah why not throw $10 the way of a fellow member. But at the same time I felt that I was sticking up for the thousands of members who might not want to do a referral.

I think that the use of referrals is good. But I don't want my fellow anandtech members to be mislead. The way so many people are announcing the availablity of referrals just seems kind of tacky to me. I'd be happy to refer anyone, but if you feel that someone else is more deserving, or you don't feel like being referred, or you want $50 instead of $25, that's fine too. That's the only point I was trying to make.

And yeah I've been "one of those Aholes" more than once (like when I foudn out what "DIAF" meant). I've also had a few interactions with members that were really heart warming.

Whatever, people can do what they want. The point is, if you want $25 for opening an account with ING direct, you are not required to be referred by someone. To me truth is very important.

Yes you're not locked in like a CD. All regular accounts earn interest at the published rate, effective immediately when the new rate is announced. I get emails with titles that say "you are now earning XX.XX%."

Too good to be true. Once signed up you can refer your spouse/children and collect $35 per account opened and link them all to the original checking account. Or, use the $50 code and do the same. Opened one today, four more over the next few days for wife and 3 kids.
