I've used all NVIDIA products (motherboard, video card, tuner) and the NVIDIA DVD Decoder is still glitching on me. When I try to play a movie, Media Center shows the following error message:
According to Microsoft, this is because I am using component output. The so-called "resolution" to the problem is to lower my screen resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768. Neither of these settings are available while the NVIDIA display driver sees that I am connected to an HDTV through the component output dongle. Why are HD resolutions such as 720p and 1080i restricted? At one point, I forced it to switch to 800x600 and it still did not resolve the problem, but switching to standard 480p mode (720x480) allows me to play the disc. This is lower than the native resolution of the DVD content! Am I not allowed to play DVD's on an HDTV with a Media Center PC???!!! :Q
The current NVIDIA DVD Decoder was included with the NVTV Dual Tuner card. I installed the OEM update available on NVIDIA's web site.
For the record, I ripped a DVD ISO image with DVD Decrypter and mounted it with Daemon-Tools...it played perfectly. I checked and it was using the NVIDIA decoder. This really does appear to be a copy protection issue. Why does the DVD consortium not want me to play movies on my !@#$ing television?
