A surprise to few, Infowars did apparently nothing to confirm or otherwise verify the claims made by the source who faked everything they ended up publishing.

buzzfeed said:
“There’s no level of judgement from these people claiming to be journalists, there is no rigour whatsoever and they’re the first people to see an article from The New York Times or CNN or BuzzFeed and call it fake news.”

He added: “Another scary thing that this is just me doing it and it took 20 minutes. If, say, the Russians are setting up things to put out disinformation they clearly don’t need a sophisticated process.

“They can just give that idiot a story and he’ll run with it.”

BuzzFeed News contacted Watson to ask why he published the content of the DMs without checking whether the information was real. He replied only: “BuzzFeed is cancer. BuzzFeed is fake news.”

So you know... share with your friends and family who frequent this site. Help them be critical thinkers and skeptical.

I completely agree. Nevertheless, I see it cited so often as a source around here, this seemed worth posting to hopefully burst some of the bubbles.

Alex Jones and his followers are the epitome of stupid, tin foil wearing, conspiracy theorists. It shouldn't come as a surprise that they are reporting fake news since they always have and always will be targeting the same ignorant people.

I don't know but what does that have to do with this thread? Do you get your news from buzzfeed?

Nope, thought it was ironic the topic was about fake news when Buzzfeed made recent buzz for being fake news itself in recent press conference.

Didn't buzzfeed recently get heat for releasing fake news as well for the Trump dossier?

"Fake news" is when an agency publishes an article that they know to be false. I haven't yet heard any credible source say that the Trump dossier is fake. Lacking in concrete sources and evidence (as far as the public eye is concerned), definitely (and possibly pointless to publish in its current state without stronger evidence to back it up, at least IMHO, though sometimes news stories start in that state, then many evidence sources come out of the woodwork as a result of the initial claims being published).

I'm going to guess you mean Trump raved that what Buzzfeed released was false. It might be unconfirmed at the moment, but was based on documents from an intelligence source that was reputable, regardless of it can ever be confirmed. You cannot go back in time and verify some things after the fact.

It was not just made up out of thin air though, and sounded highly plausable.

Buzzfeed reporting about fake news.
