Not a hot deal unless you put this in a very dark room. With any amount of light coming in, the picture quality will suck unless you are pushing 2000 lumens.

You underestimate this projector and you overestimate the so called "2000 lumens" projector. There are variabilities and this projector actually performed higher than the rated lumens in some reviews.

While it does look best in a dark room, it is watchable even with light in the room, especially for regular TV. By "light in the room," I mean that you can actually read the TV guide etc. I doubt whether even a 2000 lumens projector will look good showing a movie in a room with light. By the way, all projectors are designed to be used in a darkened room, just like a movie theater, just like watching slides and old home movies. For people who don't have a light controlled TV room, these will be much nicer in the longer winter nights. Just keep in mind that these are generally used in conjunction with a regular TV. I use my Toshiba 30" for casual viewing, especially during the daytime.

just a little warning for you guys. this is a DLP projector, so some of you might be affected by rainbows. not everybody is, but some are. i'm scared to tell you what they are cuz then you will look for it. i'm one of those affected by rainbows so this projector won't cut it (i've seen one though, the picture is great).

Generally you can extend a bulb's life by "burning it in" for 24 hours or so when you first
turn it on. Course I can't take advantage of this deal anyway since I don't have a room that is big enough and gets dark enough. Damned no-basement-state.
