Go there and read about the limitations of the 4805, you will find it. AVS is great when you find the information, but it is like fatwallet. Way too many yahoos and mega page threads with limited valuable information. It is a great resource, when filtered correctly.

4:3 sucks, x1 cant touch a 4805.
4805 uses a much better dlp chip, with much better contrast ratio, a faster color wheel.. and oh yeah 4:3 sucks.
You buy pjs for for movies, not tv. reg 4:3 tv looks heinous on anything like this.

nothing touches the 4805 in its price range, not the x1/2 or any other reg tv for that matter. Yes it has limitations but for its price, its absolutely amazing.

Ive demoed the 4805, dont let its lumens ratings or resolution bother you. For dvds it has more than enuff resolution and hidef actually looks very good. It was only when they threw a 7205 on the same screen did u notice anything lacking on the hd of the 4805. If you dont have any other 7k+ pjs to compare it next to, you will never find anything wrong with the hd presentation of the 1k unit.

Insulting avs is not gonna get u any street cred, there is no better place for hometheater info than avs, none. Comparing it to FW is ridiculous.

Does anyone know if there is a shortage of bulbs for this projector? I read on FW about taht, but havent seen any real replys to the comment. If there is a shortage of bulbs, or if I will have trouble 1-2 years down the road IDK if this would be the best bet :-/

Another 4:3 rant. Is everyone stupid?

AVS is very similar to FW when it comes to post count. The 4805 thread is 438 pages with only one or two informative posts per page. I have posted there for years in the CRT area and could care less about "street cred". What the hell does "street cred" mean in the PJ arena anyway? We are talking about a nice projector that is selling at Costco for a good price. God knows how many people will buy these this week. There is no more "street cred" in digital projectors. No longer can you be the cool guy on the street with a movie screen in your living room. Every yahoo has one now.

never said digital pjs or any pjs will score u more points, i just though u were being contrarian to be cool.

16:9 and avs both sucking.. that a good angle.

rereading your post about this vs the x1, you couldnt be more off.
You can blank yer x1 all day long, you wont increase the contrast ratio nor decrease the rainbow effect.

The reason your x1 is brighter is due to the fact the 4805 is more tuned for video output, ie give better detail in shadows, while the x1 was designed to perform well in a boardroom with the some ambient light.
4805 tracks 6500k much better out of the box than the x1.

No one using a pj at home should pick an x1 over a 4805.

Dude, please read a post before you reply to it. At least try to hide your ignorance.

Can you buy an X1 now? No. Could I buy a 4805 when I bought my X1 over a year and a half ago? No. There is hardly a choice here. If you were not an idiot and actually read my posts, you would have read that I do have ambient light and do not need the advancements that the 4805 has. I have tried them, side by side and on the same screen in the same conditions and the difference was not worth the trade. Have you tried both? Your findings may be different.

Lets look at my original post. Can't get much clearer that that:

---
Don't get this PJ if you don't have a light controlled room, or want to use a 4:3 screen. A 4:3 image is cropped to center in a 16:9. This is a major disadvantage to me. Anyone with a pull down screen is stupid to limit themselves to a 16:9 image. I have watched the 4805 and my X1 side by side and the X1 is noticeably brighter. Go for it if you have a 16:9 and a dark room.
---

Did I mention that I loved 4:3? No!
Did I mention that I hate 16:9? No?
Did I mention that the 4805 is a POS? No!
Did I mention the limitations of the pj for the more open minded people here? Yes!

Edit: Typed to fast and dropped a letter. I spend so little time typing these things, and less proofreading.
Edit2: Trading projectors would have meant $450 additional assuming that I sold the X1 for what I paid for it. An additional $250 AR with this deal.

you prefer a 4:3, brighter version of this pj.

Its still being sold as the x2
It has the better chip but not the better color wheel nor is it tuned for home use.

You seemed to advocate a brighter 4:3 pj, which is fine, but I too was showing the limitations of this approach.. for open minded ppl.

Please point out where you communicate these limitations.

The X2 is to loud and very different from the X1.

I was thinking of having my screen hug the ceiling but then the drugs wore off
