Why not just buy a freaking pack of rechargeable batteries and a recharging station? My goodness people, bit(ing and moaning over a $200+ item that you paid $50 for.

My Nomad rocks! I compress most of my MP3's into 32kbps (I do not notice a difference), and I can squeeze 10-11 songs on the 32 MB flashcard. Works for me.

LeHigh, easiest place goto www.nomadworld.com and look under accessories for the Docking Station, includes:

Package Contents:
Docking Station
USB Cable
AC Power Adapter
1 x AA NiMH Rechargeable Battery
1 x User Guide

NomadWorld's page is goofy right now, I went through 3 different locations all have different SKU #s for this item and none of them have information about the docking station anymore????

Inguyen, not sure what you listen to, but I honestly cannot tell the difference. If you can, then your hearing is too good (and that usually means too expen$ive as well). Use the Creative DAC and the convert feature. It translated my 128 kpbs (I think) MP3's into 32 kpbs MP3's, bascially giving me about 20-30% more compression. And the difference on the Nomad (for me) was insignificant. While 32 kbps is listed as "FM quality," I'd say the MP3's I've converted are quite a bit better sounding than any FM radio station. Just my $0.02.

The playlist will support long filenames with the new firmware (1.04, it's not out yet).

This thing is eating through batteries like no tomorrow for me. I got it yesterday and the battery that came with it is already dead, and I have drained the two partially used batteries already. Is anyone else having similar experiences?

yeah..one thing I didn't like about it..the cover for the usb port. You have to squeeze the cable in there, and I'm afraid of ripping that cover off. My digital camera had the same type of thing..and it could be removed..not sure if this one's removeable though, but then that also kinda kills the purpose of it as well (to not allow grit in).

Ah well..

Smoot:

32kpbs should have more than a 20-30% compression size. 96kpbs should gove you that rate. are you sure the creative conversion program didnt change it from 44HZ to 32HZ? such as 128kpbs/32Hz

thats what im thinking happened. a 32kpbs/44 hz file would be about 75% compression compared to 128kpbs/44HZ

ss284,

I converted (or "re-converted") some existing MP3's. For example, I compressed a 3300 KB file down to like 2300 or 2500 KB (I can't remember which one). The files were initially 128 kbps, but I set the "SETTINGS" for 32 kbps. The NOMAD II shows this as well when I play the files.

Hey, in all honesty, I'm not quite sure if what's being displayed is 100% right, but I do know that I can listen to 10-12 songs per 32 MB card, and I can't tell any degradation in sound quality.

Have you guys tried encoding using VBR? Haven't messed with it too much, but it seems to have a good file size/quality ratio.

ARGH!! damn stupid emusic people cant even play their promotions right. I really think I deserve a 64 smartmedia. considering computer value drops 50% every 4 months, this one month means 12.5%

12.5% times the retail price 329.99 equals 41.25. I think that deserves an upgrade!!

Are you referring to the new price of one of these players ($329.99)? They're $229.99..

Just be patient and I'm sure they'll be getting them in soon for shipment. They've been great with promotions, but if you're a late bloomer getting into them, you have to be prepared for a few delays sometimes.

Check out the website though..it was easy!

hehe - I haven't opened my Nomad II yet because I Don't see the player inside the clear window on the front of the box - something tells me that I don't have one inside.

For those of you that have been asking about upgrades, smart card size, when it will support wma (as soon as the final version is released by Microsoft) and other questions on the Nomad go to this news group that they run : news://news.creativelabs.com
It's pretty informative and I had all my questions answered by going through the posts.
