i agree. i think these netbooks should hover around the $300 range, but some are creeping up to 400-500 range... which i dont understand how many people would want one with some cheap laptops being the same price, and more fully featured

dunno my $236 after tax shipped mini-9 running 10.5.6 OSX sits well on mah fat belly when i'm couch-surfing.

any heavier/bigger and i wouldn't be able to see the tv 🙂

I just ordered an Acer for $329. Its got 1gb of RAM, the 160Gb hard drive, a 6 cell battery, and not much else.

Staples occasionally has decent deals. I am having it shipped to my local branch for free (less than a mile from my house) and they claim it will be there tomorrow, which has not yet been a lie.
The three cell models are similar, but for that kind of money it makes sense to go with the six cell.

Walmart has some Dells for sale:

These arent especially impressive, aside from the choice of colors.

I'd love to get the asus 1000HE for around $330 🙂 I think it is slightly better than the acer mostly becuase of the larger screen and keyboard. Wish they would drop windows xp (mostly to save a few $$$).

Are there any physcial stores that carry the Samsung NC20, Dell mini 20, or Acer 751h?

I want to try a 11.6 - 12in screen in person before committing to a 10.1 in screen.

none that i can think of, not sure whats in your area, but there are some stores like best buy that sell other 12in laptops. so if you just want to see what the screen looks like compared to the 10in models, then you have some options

I'm looking to maybe get a netbook, I like the HP Mini 1000, but not so much a fan of glossy screens. I have read a few articles on the Mini 1100 that's coming out, and one said it will have a matte screen. But I can't find any definite here, specs wise I like everything else on the Mini with maybe the exception of the resolution. But I've never seen one in person so I don't know how big of a deal going from 1024x600 to 1333x768 would be. Does anyone know if HP for sure will be releasing an updated Mini with a matte display?

Dammit, I thought the Asus T101 was supposed to be released by this point. Does anyone have any updates on this series along with the T91?

without making YANBT....

can anyone comment on the utility of higher res screens with netbooks? does 1366 x 768 really make a big enough difference to be worth it? not necessarily for HD video or anything, just screen real estate. afaik only the dell 10 and hp mini 2140 even make the high res screen an option, but are there others i'm overlooking? also, osx compatibility might be a consideration.

thanks for your any comments.

I really want a Toshiba NB205 with a 1376x768 screen. If they can make it 11.6" without enlarging the case I'll take that, too. Until then, no netbook for me.

I don't go with HP and Asus laptops.
Asus is notorious for poor performance yet the price is not cheaper than the good brands:-(. While HP laptops are notorious for overheating problem. I think MSI will definitely kill Asus. I'd rather suggest buying well-known laptops to minimize the risk.
