Info needed re: recording

nork

Senior member
I am going to take on the task of converting some of my lp's to cd.

I read that these are the progs needed to do the job. Not knowing much about this I
thought i would ask you people about this.
I would like to get as many of the progs free

This is the list of progs that I read are needed to do the job:
adobe audition, cakewalk pyro, sound forge, cool edit 2000, plus! analog recorder, audacity.
I would like to know:
If any of these programs listed are free?
If there are free programs that will do the same job as the progs listed?
Any other progs out there, free or not, that will do the same job as the progs listed,
maybe at a lower cash outlay, or maybe do a better or similar job?
Any other info that you feel is pertinent to the task.
I might as well point out that I dont mind using a prog that i dont necessarily have the
right to use, since it would only be a one-time deal, and money is tight for me as I am
handicapped. This is not an excuse, only a reason, and lectures on this are not wanted.
You could email me on that at kingbee@cogeco.ca.
I am running win xp pro and win 98se and I have all the regular gear that one might have
for a stereo system, but i dont have anything specifically made for a computer, although
I will only be recording audio, no video at this point. So,if there is any audio gear aside the from the stero equipment that i need, please let me know.

Thanks for your help in advance as I know you people are always willing to share your knowledge and experience. Makes this a great place!

One other thing, how do you turn on the firewall in win xp pro, this is for my friend who is running around the internet naked!!! I use zone alarm so i havent learned how to turn it on.

Audacity is free, but not nearly as powerful as the rest. It'll let you record from your soundcard and then save the wave file. I guess you would just plug your stereo into your soundcard's line in jack.

You can use Audacity to splice up the recording into individual tracks and then export them as wav files. Your CD burning program should be able to burn a music CD from there.
