I am looking at these speakers but the rms wattage is only 60 compared to the infinity 6x9's (100 watts) I am going to put in the back of my car. Is 60 watts plenty loud, or should I go looking for higher quality speakers?

I understand that wattage isn't everything in car speakers... but I also understand that I know next to nothing about car speakers.

My friend has an infinity set up(referance) , and I love the sound it produces. I tryed the speakers at best buy, but everything sounds like crap until you push the amp button so you they try to get you to buy an amp :roll: .

Should I pull the trigger on these 6.5 speakers for my front doors?

Head unit: Alpine cda-9833

Back speakers: Infinity 9602i (6x9)

Front speakers: To be decided
 
How much power does your head send to each channel?


60W should be fine ... the Infinity's, while not the best, will
sound better than your stock speakers.

60WRMS is PLENTY loud.

But something you should be concerned about if you're underpowering the speakers, is the speakers' efficiency.

If they're 60WRMS and 85dB/m/w, that might kinda suck @ 20WRMS.. although it would still probably be plenty loud. If they're 95dB/m/w, that's different.

^^ I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I have been researching a lot lately, and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Thats another thing, I have no idea how loud a certain wattage sounds... but now I do (thanks Eli).

Well, if REALLY need be I can get an amp for them. But I consider my dad's speakers to be very loud in his 2001 camry with stock speakers and head unit.

The main reason I wanted new speakers is because I will be driving 45 minutes to and from university every day starting in fall, and I wanted to keep myself sain. I am really not looking to blow anyone's socks off with this system, basicly I want a decent budget system.
 
I have 100W Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1's pushed 111W by a amp and they don't seem all that loud but I've probably damaged my hearing or something

Of course I dont know anything. I have only been selling this stuff for six years now,. But I did stay at a Motel 6 last night.

It should be listed in the specs area...

My brother just picked up a pair of J&B 6.5" 3 way speakers to replace his totally worn out stock ones... they were 20$ for the pair.. and they sound much better than the dead speakers. They're rated at 220W(no RMS,lol..) and 89dB/m/w... I can't remember which model Kenwood reciever he has though.

The rubber on his old stock ones was literally totally gone, so anything would have sounded better though. They're just an interim solution until he can do some research and find out what's really good. 🙂 The old dead speakers were bugging the hell out of him.

Also, I was thinking of installing everything myself (headunit, and speakers). I have found a few great websites with pics and step by step instructions... that and I will be out of school 2 months earlier than my friends, so I figure working on it a few days will be good to pass the time.

Would you strongly recommend professional installation?

What's "professional" about removing some screws, hooking up 2 wires, and replacing the screws? lol

But for the headunit do you think i'll be fine soldering the wiring harnesses together with just regular solder or is there some better stuff I should be using, or pay the 40 bucks and let someone else do it?

Oh, head unit too?... Well, if you want to learn, you can go for it..

If you'd rather just have it work, I would have someone do the install.

lol, your head unit and speakers aren't going to be approaching audiophile quality here..

If you need to solder(I don't know if you do), normal, cheap, readily available 60/40 will be fine, heh.

1993 camry with a cassette deck.

I got the deck off of a friend for pretty cheap after he totalled his car (there is no way in hell I would pay retail for that.)
