Infinity I35???

My parents are looking for a new car, anyone have any experience with the Infinity I35???
Any recommend any other cars in the $20k-$30k price range??

When I was looking at cars a few months back, I liked the I35, but for the price I would take a decked out passat (glx or loaded gls), audi a4, or acura 3.2TL over it.

There is a strong preference in these forums towards smaller sport sedans, the vw passat is a popular choice, and its siblings. (the audi a4 variants). However, given that the majority of people here are young/mid age male drivers, this is not surprising.

For the somewhat older folk the larger Acura TL is a more reasonable choice, they come well-equipped and are fairly inexpensive. There is also a sporty version if you are so inclined, though its price is getting progressively higher.

The I35 is a maxima. A fundamentally sound vehicle that uses horsepower to mask many of its deficiencies. It doesn't ride as well as its competitors nor is it well-priced. (also of note, it exceeds your price range.) The G35 (a new model, not the ordinary g20) is an interesting smaller car, though i would say its a bit too cramped for many. (its more in the lexus IS territory than ES.)

One thing to consider is to buy a loaded family sedan that includes many of the features of a luxury sedan without incurring the costs of the nameplate. A fully-optioned toyota camry is a comparable vehicle to the lexus ES, but will be available for a bit less.

it's a freaking amazing car... i often told myself last year or so, if i had to buy a car under 40,000 CAD it'd be an Infiniti I30T because it's so DAMN nice... i wouldn't consider the car pricey at all.. i think for what you get, it's a good price.. my dads Maxima was about the same price as a loaded Intrepid ES, and while that's a nice car too, everyone knows the Maxima is a better car. faster, better quality, everything.. Infiniti is top notch.

your saying this about a maxima?

the ride issue is like comparing apples to oranges. if you compare a maxima with a accord or camry, they are very similar, given the fact that you are comparing the GLE/GXE trims. The SE trim WILL ride harder than the rest because it was designed to do so.

what other "many" definiencies does the maxima have?

The I35 is not a maxima....the I30 is the maxima twin. The major differences are that the new I35 has a true sports sedan REAR WHEEL DRIVE SETUP also the engine has been bumped up to .5 liters. This car will handle better the the maxima. The I35 is aimed at the 3 series BMW cause of their sportyness. The front-engine/rear-drive configuration promises an even weight distribution, like the near-perfect 52/48-percent balance on the I35 concept car. Here's a quick review on the car



The I35 is an evolution of the second-generation I30 entry level luxury sedan. It features a more powerful engine, updated exterior styling, standard 17-inch wheels, an upgraded braking system, stability control and more luxurious interior appointments.

Nissan and Infiniti have been rather busy this year debuting new and updated models. The Infiniti I35, an evolution of the I30 entry level luxury sedan, is one of those new models.

Central to the I35 upgrade is a 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 engine that makes an impressive 255 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque. The increase in power compared to I30 (the I30 had 227 hp) is due to larger engine displacement. The new engine also features variable valve timing, a silent timing chain and an electronically controlled throttle. With 255 horses under the hood, the I35 is currently second only to the Acura TL Type-S in terms of power. Alas, in the Infiniti only a four-speed automatic transmission is available, transferring power to the front wheels.

The I35 shares its body structure with the Nissan Maxima. As such, the Infiniti is one of the few cars in this class with a beam rear axle; the rest have independent rear suspensions. It may be a very sophisticated beam rear axle, but it is still at an inherent disadvantage in that the I35 can't absorb mid-corner bumps as well as the other cars. The car does provide a smooth yet controlled ride, a bonus for long highway cruises. It also features improved braking compared to the I30 thanks to larger disc brakes and the addition of Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist to the standard antilock brakes.

One of the I35 strengths is its surprisingly roomy back seat, as well as its comfortable seating for five adults. The eight-way power-adjustable driver seat includes lumbar support, two-position memory and an automatic entry/exit system. The trunk is one of the largest in this segment, holding a maximum of 14.9 cubic feet of stuff.

The I30 was previously available in two different trim levels, but the I35 comes in just "Luxury" trim. Conveniently, the Infiniti offers plenty of kit to remind you that, yes, indeedy, this is a luxury car. It has a classy analogue clock gracing the dash, revised Sojourner leather-appointed seats, an express-open sunroof, automatic climate control and a 200-watt Bose audio system with an in-dash six-disc CD changer. Infiniti has also added simulated wood trim to the center console and to the leather-wrapped steering wheel this year.

In terms of optional features, one of the more impressive ones is a navigation system that pops out of the top of the dash to make you feel like you're in a James Bond flick. Infiniti nav systems have what they call a Birdview perspective, which gives a realistic simulation of looking at the landscape from a height. Other options include a power sunroof and rear sunshade, a cold weather package with heated front and rear seats, and a sport package. The sport package effectively replaces the I30 Touring trim, and it includes a sport-tuned suspension, wider 17-inch tires and stability control, a new feature for this year.

With its classy looks, smooth and powerful V6 and long list of standard and available features, the I35 delivers a luxury sedan experience that doesn't entail typical luxury sedan payments. Other front-drive cars like the Acura TL Type-S and the new Lexus ES 300 also deserve your attention, but there's no reason why you shouldn't consider the I35 in your selection process.

hmm..I should be careful around maxima people. But seriously, driving a maxima (non SE) versus accord, the difference is there. The accord is smoother, the ride is better....the camry even more so. Now these are not huge differences but they are there. Nothing wrong with the Maxima, its a fine car. Its just a different flavor than a camry, one which may not be as well appreciated among older drivers.


And for the I35, not sure how that weight distribution comes about. Those are g35 specs. As i have noted before, the I35 is front wheel drive.

I saw the G35 in person today..its not that bad. The rear seating is not as small as I thought. I sat in the back and my legs were comfortable. I'm 5'8

Infinity G35 is the Skyline V35 in Japan.
So it's supposed to be small, cuz it's sort of a luxurious sporty kinda car
but they watered it down as usual so it sux...

I am a Maxima fanboy. But for old people, get a Camry or Lexus ES.
Nice and floaty, very smooth, drives like a boat. Not very fast, but fast enough to get from A to B.
What's not to like if you are over 50 that is.
Only get I35 if they like going fast. Old people won't appreciate the car's handling dynamics and a little harsher ride than say camry.

The G35 is a new design based on the Skyline... it's not quite the Skyline even though it shares chassis, suspension, and drivetrain components for the sake of efficency. Just have them drive them all, they're all good choices. As long as your folks are happy, that's all that counts.

G35 is identical to Japanese Skyline (the latest version) except for bigger engine, left drive, and badge. You must be thinking about skyline GTR, which has very little to do with regular skyline sedan.
