Yeah, that is a pretty mind-boggling car payment. I guess I don't see the sense in buying a $50K car unless you can put at least $20-30K down. To me any car payment over $500 seems crazy, and I make six figures myself. I suppose some people would take the view, though, that it makes sense to finance the whole thing so you have the option of paying as much or as little per month as you want, as long as it's at least the required payment.

You got it. I'll put more down once I sell the GTO. Also, my GTO payment was $630/mo (crappy finance rate by comparison), so it's really not that much more. The finance rate was only 3.9% on a 5 year loan, so it doesn't really matter a lot whether I put anything down.

Oh, and the car is damned nice. It makes the GTO seem cheap.

Grats!! The adaptive cruise control would've been awesome, but perhaps not for $2.5k. ;) $900+/mo. is really crazy but at least you're not leasing and paying that, then doing it again on the next car and the next... perpetual monthly rentals @ that price = ouch.

I've only been in G35 coupes & GTO's so I can't compare to a G37.

I stick with the GTO.

Pontiac has a nicer interior than an Infiniti? Are you serious? (I have no exp w/either car, I'm just amazed by that statement)

Well it's all subjective....anyway for that $970 payment a month you can do a lot to the interior of a car to make it surpass even the most luxurious cars.

Most I know never dropped more on their interior than a set of racing seats...a few had every panel and dash upholstered, even the guages and lighting redone and the results are freaking amazing.

god that car is sexy!

edit: if the S5 is too much, then go for the A5 with the sportline package. But IMO the 335i is a better buy than the A5 for the price. 335i is a damn sexy car too. BMW did this one right for sure.

actually, i just built the S5 and it came out to 53K which is in the ballpark of the 335i. If you're seriously considering the 335i, take a look at the S5 also

GOD that S5 is gorgeous!

gratz on the purchase OP.

Good choice, Kadarin. I love the 335. I can't yet justify that kind of payment to myself since I don't drive to work anymore, but your purchase certainly isn't helping my cause :)

Enjoy the hell out of that car.

define loaded, that car has a lot of options.

at 48K + TTL you got a pretty decent deal. Did you get it at Stevens Creek BMW?

BMW of Fremont. Stevens Creek didn't have the right color combination in stock or I probably would have gotten it on Thursday.

It doesn't have the active steering, the rear sunshade, or adaptive cruise control. I think, however, that it's got everything else. 18" rims on the Sport package, but I'll probably swap those out sometime soon for some 19s.

What I'm going to do at some point: Lower it, 19" custom rims, exhaust kit, and eventually *maybe* a Dinan tune or something similar.

The Dinan tune claims to up the boost from 8.8 to 13.2 PSI, and thus bring the car to 384 hp and 421 lb-ft of torque at 4300. These numbers rival the GTO.

Please be careful with overboosting the stock turbos. There are lots of reports coming in with blown turbos due to improper modding.

Second that. If this is your first turbocharged car, learn up. Most stock turbos are peashooters that really aren't efficient too far past stock pressures. As efficiency drops, more energy goes into heating the air than compressing it, and that can do some engine damage.

Find out what kind of turbos are on the car, find a compressor map, and learn to read it or talk to someone who does. You can determine what's safe from that.

Boost control is another issue all together. I'm not sure how the 335 does it, if its a mechanical wastegate actuator or an ECU-controlled solenoid (or better yet, a series of them).

Since you bought the car, I assume you plan on keeping it. BMW's aren't exactly the most reliable outside of the warranty period, so if you're going to beat on it, might want to consider selling it in a few years too.

Anyhow, I'm not trying to discourage modding. It's easy to chase some easy HP with a turbo, though, and just as easy to do some damage. Be careful.

Good advice! Modifying the engine (including just putting a tune to increase boost) is something for down the road, if I even do it. In the more immediate term, I'm going to focus on appearance and sound, as the car is plenty fast already.

You liar... you can never be satisfied with plenty fast. Dinan would have done their research before putting something out, I wouldnt worry about it. Besides, you gotta pay to play. Now get out there and fix the appearance with a new exhaust and the sound by pushing more boost!

You can get an intercooler upgrade, which makes life on the turbos easier (cooler charge air). I've measured quite a bit of hp gain on the 335i.

Yes, by Dinan. More precisely, Dinan will warranty the car in the event BMW refuses to repair under warranty because of a Dinan mod. I've heard some horror stories of cases where BMW points to Dinan, and Dinan points back to BMW. Not sure if it's true, but I guess you still have to be careful...

Pfft. I can't even floor the damned thing yet, as the engine isn't broken in yet. :p

But I can lower it and make it look like this: link (not my car)
