I have no idea. But my friend has the regular automatic and I must say it's a nice ride. Pretty freaking fast too.

My dad bought the automatic last July and he loves it. You can shift up and down manually but it isn't the same.

Isn't this the tiptronic automatic? ( I don't know if I spelled it right ).. but some 350z owners have told me.. it's actually faster than shifting manually.

If that's how they justify an automatic in a sportscar, more power to them!

The "tiptronic" in the G35 is a glorified automatic transmission that allows user-input for gear changes. The actual shift speed is similar to a normal automatic transmission.

It seems you're thinking of a sequential manual, which is a traditional clutch/flywheel type transmission with a solenoid that controls the clutch instead of a pedal. You use paddles on the steering wheel to shift up or down.

By the way, Nissan has been taking preorders for the 6-spd, and they've supposedly been selling like hotcakes. Expect A) a nice dealer markup from MSRP or B) long wait time until delivery.

Yeah they are. I believe it was orginally supposed to be released in Feb '03, but I haven't heard much about it since then so I'm not sure when now.

Dunno about the coupe, but the sedan is pretty small inside. I'm 6 even and it's on the snug side for me. The Altima is roomier inside.

If it weren't for the prestige/quality issue, I think I'd prefer a V6 Altima over the G35 sedan.

If I had the choice between the G35 coupe and the Z, I'd take the G35. For about the same price, you sacrifice a little performance but you get a lot of luxury. Well worth it. I went to the international auto show in SLC on sunday and sat in each. G35 is much nicer.

The coupe is on a stretched platform and has a better track than the sedan. That and the fact that the coupe has more HP/TQ at the crank. It also sounds a lot better under WOT.

As for the transmission, though they are still tiptronic they - in no way - shift like a regular automatic if you go for the manual shifting mode.

Agreed - the G35 is a more handsome car than the Z IMO as well.

ug, the g35 looks like ass.
I guess i'm just a Nissan only Nissan fan boy. The 350z has the looks, and performance, I could care less about luxury. If i'm buying a sports car i want it to be fast and handle well. I don't want wood trim or vanity mirrors. I want a monster engine, badass suspension and a steering wheel.

I'm just hoping they come out with a TT version of it. I will knock up some hooker for her kid and sell it on the black market for a 350ZTT
