You'd think they'd at least kick it up a notch from the Altima

I'll take an Audi A4 3.0 Quattro please w/6-speed 😀

<< IMO Audi's have very cheap interiors, crappy plastic paneling all over and they are not comfortable at all. >>

Whatever. Audi's have LONG been praised for having the best interiors in the bizness...HANDS DOWN! The A4 is no exception. You're the FIRST person I've heard to ever say that Audi has cheap interiors. Sit in one, and you'll see what I mean. A4, A6, A8, even the TT are all emaculate.

<< What's the price delta between G35 and A4?

I personally don't care about interior.
>>

Auto.com tested a pretty loaded G35 for $34,220 as tested in that link I gave.

An A4 Quattro 6-speed with Sport package, leather, sunroof, Xenon lights, and moonroof runs $36,305.

I like the Audi A4 better but then I'll take the G35 coupe. Wowsers. 🙂 Plus, there are a lot of Audis out there. Not like Toyotas or Hondas, but still enough to not make me feel special.

Audi's interiors are beautifully crafted and well above the industry average in their class. Which says something since they are a luxury/performance brand.

<< Audi's interiors are beautifully crafted and well above the industry average in their class. Which says something since they are a luxury/performance brand. >>

Exactly. When it comes to interiors, Nissan/Inifiniti is usually at the the average or slightly below (i.e. Altima/Sentra/G35/I35). I mean, they're better than domestics, but no where near Audi or VW.

Nissan always cuts corners in the interior, but I prefer a more balanced application of funds between chassis/engine/interior/styling. The A4 has it all😀

It just screams beauty and it's a near perfectly balanced machine; especially with Quattro. And the interior is just gorgeous (where you spend 99.9% of your time with the car). The G35 sedans screams Passat from the side and Nissan from the inside😉

<< I would take the G35, but I will give it a year so Nissan can get feedback and hopefully make some changes. >>

I heard that Nissan was gonna beef up the chintzy interior materials of the Altima for '03? I wonder if its just a rumour?:Q

I've said it before and I say it again: interiors of japanese cars are crap. They feel cheap. Even the top-of-the-line luxury models feel like glorified Corollas. I took a look at Mitsubishi Galant few months ago. Outside is nice, but the interior is just plain awful! And it's supposed to compete with BMW 3-series??? VW Polo (a subcompact) has a better interior than Mitsubishis BMW-competitor! Same goes to Maxima, Camry etc. etc.

Um, let me get this straight. You think that the Galant, Maxima and Camry are top-of-the-line luxury? Have you ever heard of such itty-bitty companies such as Lexus and Acura? While I can't speak for the Acura, I think that Lexuses (or Lexi) have beautifully crafted interiors. I have the privilege of yearly attending a car show at a local university that has entries from most of the automobile makers out there and the Lexus LS420 is right in line with the S500, the 740iL and the A8. I've had the chance to pilot a Lexus GS300 and a E320 4matic and have ridden in a couple of A6s and a 528i. The GS300 was easily at the same level as the three German automobiles.

On a lower level, I definitely wouldn't put the Galant in the same class as the 3-series. If that's where Mitsubishi wants to put it, fine, but it's just not there. I also have a Camry as a daily driver and I love that car. I have no problems with the interior; the ergonomics are fabulous. Have you ever spent any time in a Japanese car?

In Finland, Mitsubishi aims Galant as direct competitor to BMW 3-series. And the cost is about the same. And besides, who talked about "top-of-the-luxury"? Or do you mean that we should compare the absolute hi-end japanese luxury-cars to cheapest BMW's available to get a fair comparison? I compared two different models, both about as big, both with similar price and both targeted at same people.

And besides, Acuras are not sold here.

And regardless of what you said, the fact remains that some european subcompacts have better interiors that japanese luxury-models!

I have spent plenty of time in japanese cars. And each and every time their interiors strike me as being cheap and plastique.

My conclusion after reading that: they still can't beat BMW! Next year, I bet BMW throws in a de-tuned version of its 3.2L 333-hp M3 engine into the 330i and lowers its base price or adds even more standard features, though.

Sigh!!... Yet another wannbe falls on the side...

I think the closest anybody has come (and actually at times) beaten a BMW is Audi. Their problem however is that they have been too conservative. What the heck were they thinking when they released the new A4 with a 220 hp engine and Quattro (with the 330 already having more hp and no AWD load).
And still they came within hair's breadth of BMW.

But I think they are just warming up. With the change of management, Audi is planning to be much more aggressive. I say watch them in the next year or 2, topple BMW. Watch out for the next S4, A4 with maybe a 2.7T (that should kick some serious butt), and the upcoming all-aluminium A6.

As for the wannabes like Acura, Infiniti, Lexus etc, IMO they are still in the second rung... But good that they keep nipping at the leaders (aka BMW, Audi and to an extent some Merc models). Keeps the leaders from getting complacent.

And whoever thinks that Audi interiors aren't the best in world, needs to get out of their chintzy Civic's and Corollas a bit more often... :disgust:

But anyhow kudos to Infiniti for their new good and better than Acura models..

Whatever. The Galant DOES NOT compete with the 3-Series. The Galant competes with the Altima/Accord/Camry/Passat/Taurus

The 3-Series competes with the TL Type-S/A4/G35/IS300

Two completely different sets of cars aimed at completely different market segments and people.

Buahahahha, so true!! 😀

When it comes to cars Germans are years ahead of everyone else. I'd take a bmw compact (i.e. 3 series) over toyota luxury car (i.e. lexus 🙂)

Notice the part in my post that said "In Finland"? In Finland, Mitsubishi clearly aims at the BMW-crowd (unsuccesfully I might add). In Finland, Galant can't compete with Altima or Taurus, since neither model is available here.

Like I said, Galant and 3-series BMW has similar pricing, similar size and similar target-market in Finland. They are clearly competitors. And that is the case in Finland, I don't know how it is in USA.

and even if Galant didn't compete with 3-series, the fact remains that (in Finland at least) they are priced similarly, one has awesome interior, other has a cheap interior. With that price you should expect a bit better interior than the one Galant offers (or majority of japanese cars for that matter).

EDIT: typo

Finland?? What is that, like .8 percent of BMW's worldwide sales. HAHAHA.

In the U.S. (a market that BMW cares A LOT more about than little 'ol Finland), a Galant ranges from $17,707 - $24,157. The 3-Series ranges from $27,100 - $42,400.

NUFF SAID.

Toyota last longer.......

The G35 does not have a crappy interior. Functionally its perfect with everythign within reach and the materials are fine. They may not be Audi quality, but then I could care less since it costs MUCH cheaper <atleast in Canada> than a similarly equipped A4. On top of that, the A4 looks like a bloated pig.

Personally I'd rather have more money put into the drivetrain and suspension rather than the interior. As long as its functional and doesn't not rattle or squeak I'm happy. I hate squeaking interiors!! I could care less if the plastic is one notch below Audis it should be since its $5k cheaper! Atleast it handles and performs like a dream..and that's what counts.

That said, the Sentra has a nice looking and functional interior. Its pretty solid too..no rattles over bumps. Can't say the same for the Altima...atleast it looks good though.
