Infinite Loop installing Windows 2000 Pro

I'm attempting to install Windows 2000 Professional on an old computer (PII 266MHz). The computer previously had Windows 2000 Server, but that was overkill, and Windows 98SE before that. This is just a child's PC that's part of the family network.

The install seems to start out fine. It formats the 60gig hard drive for NTFS and moves to copying files. It installs the network controls, looks at the devices, and asks me to pick the regional settings. Each time I do this and it reboots. Then I receive a message at reboot that says "setup is being restarted" and it just keeps doing the same things over and over. Its stuck.

Any suggestions?

Did you remove the CD from the drive after the reboot?

I tried that. If the CD isn't there, then I get a setup error, the computer reboots and the loop starts over again.

Where did you get the Win2k CD ??

Bad hardware can cause that. uninstall all cards except the graphicscard.

ive experienced an infinite loop while installing winXP..i was using a sata HD.. i tried using another sata port (moved it from port 3 to port 1) and the problem went away...

in your case, try to check how the HD is installed- check the jumper and then try to swap IDE 1 & 2...

I tried with Win XP Professional and everything worked fine. Go figure.
