Infineon Bios mod for 9800np to 9800 pro

Hi All,
I don't mean to beat a dead horse, can't help wondering though. Has anyone had success using the infineon bios mod flashing the 9800 np with the infineon 3.0 memory to 9800 pro status.
There was a link to the bios mod in the Rage3d Forum I think it was. One of the thread's had the link to the Bios Mod

Hi estew,

You might have seen a link I posted, not sure. I'm trying to get some responses on this idea:

The Gigacube 9800 non pro with 3.0 INFINEON memory WILL CLOCK TO PRO SPEEDS. In that novel-of-a-post at rage3d forums "How to flash a 9800 Non-Pro into a Pro", there is a member named eva2000 who has the Gigacube 9800 np and he is getting blistering speeds.

Have a look at this page, 8th post down and you will see his speeds. Then go further down the page and he has pics of his speeds in Rage3D Tweak. Keep in mind that this is not a flash, but merely an overclock.

I'm wondering if the Gigacube BIOS couldn't be used on my ATI with the 3.0 Infineon.

If somebody is knowledgeable in this area, please let me know what you think about this.

If I were you I would first overclock the card to see what speeds it is stable at. If you can hit 380 core 330 mem (340 is actually the default but the bios ups the voltage a tad) then you can probably do it. BTW I use a program called RadClocker to OC here:

RadClocker

and here is the link to the instructions for the bios flash:

I can do 380 with no problem. In fact, I can go higher.

But my memory will only get to 320-ish. It will not work at 330 (artifacts).

Does my idea about flashing to a Gigacube BIOS sound like trouble?

I'm just having a hard time wrapping my mind around this. It's the same brand RAM, rated at the same speed. Why couldn't it perform the same as the Gigacube?

Personally I wouldn't do it until we have more info. That's already a great overclock and I have to wonder if we are already at or very near default 9800pro speeds what will the bios do for us anyway? I know it ups the voltage but I'm getting 420 core 330 memory and I'm very happy.

Yeah, I'm happy with what I got. Just thinking it would be nice to squeeze a little bit more juice out on the memory. And the guys who were lucky enough to get Samsung ram (doesn't matter what the speed rating is 2.8, 3.0, 3.2, etc.) they are all getting VERY good overclocks.

And I keep seeing posts like "when will there be a hacked BIOS for the cards using Infineon ram?"

This just makes me think it's possible with the Gigacube, since the implication with that statement is one that says Infineon is limited by it's BIOS content rather than the temperature of the chips. And if that's the case, obviously Gigacube has sorted it out to get better speeds; hence, their BIOS equips the Infineon to perform with stability at higher clock speeds.

But you are right. Let's definitely wait and see if some more information on this surfaces.

I want more info here too. I'm running 320/317.25 with Radclocker on a bb ATI r9800np. Looks like I can go ALOT higher with the core. Please Keep this thread alive.

blazerazor,

You should be able to get quite a bit higher on core for sure. I played quake3 last night with a core of 425, then I tried 430 but started getting white speckles on the screen. I'm content to run it at 380, which is pro speed, and it's probably safer to keep it lower than 400 (I'm just speculating here -- it could be perfectly safe at 400+).

I'm hoping this idea of using a Gigacube BIOS flash will give me some room for overclocking the memory a bit more. I bet your memory tops out about where mine does.

If somebody reading this has any information they can share on this subject, please do. It would be cool for the Infineon 9800np's to be able to clock higher because there are a lot of us out there who own one of these, rather than the Samsung.

Everybody knows that overclocking is a crap-shoot. You are pinning an awful lot of hopes on the report of one or two successes.
If you are really interested in doing this, try to get in contact with someone with a giga-cube and get them to dump their BIOS for you.
Back your BIOS up, and have a PCI video card available if you need to re-flash back to your original BIOS.
Your probably not gonna burn your card 'cause you'll just be flashing with another non-pro BIOS.
Of course, I take no responsibility if anything goes wrong.🙂

For those of you who are keeping track:

ATI 9800NP (Infineon 3.0ns) running @ 375 core/306 mem nice and stable so far. I think I'm pretty much close to the sweet spot here, I can increase the memory but I have to decrease the core or I'll get artifacts. This cards was from the local Best Buy a few days ago, seems the majority of the latest ones have Infineon chips, sigh. Oh well, not too bad - a not too shabby jump from the stock 325/290?

Nope not too shabby. But I do have a guy who says he will do it if he can get the Gigacube BIOS and a floppy drive, lol.

I'll keep you posted.
