Infected ingrown hair on my toe

Use alcohol to sterilize the area and the needle, pop it, and use hydrogen peroxide afterwards to kill off infection. You could substitute the peroxide for some alcohol, but that might be a little painful.
 
The streaking you see radiating from the pustule is cellulitis, which is a dangerous infection if not treated.

Seriously.

Do you have a fever?

Can you move the toes that are near it?

Get to a health care provider tomorrow.

But I've already got the golf clubs ordered.

I don't think it's that bad. No fever. I can move the toes around it as well as that toe. There is some soreness around it. I'd like to avoid going to the doctor unless it's necessary. Unless you've got some podiatry qualifications, I'm to hit it with a 9 iron at high noon.
 
My g/f the nurse practitioner says you need to be on an antibiotic. And she is reluctant when to give out antibiotics unless absolutely necessary.

is a antibiotics for a ingrown hair necessary? i have had zits nastier than what the OP has.

Because of the streaking you can see in the first pic, antibiotics are necessary. It is not an ingrown hair, but a pustule. The swelling reveals a much worse situation than any ingrown hair of that size can produce.

What does she suggest for someone trying to avoid going to the doctor? I'm not scared of the doctor, but I'm planning on taking a lot of time off from work next week and really don't want to miss any time from work and risk falling behind on my project...What does she think about using a 9 iron with neosporin on it?
 
You're not going to die from this, but doing anything to it at home is a bad idea. It's already infected, poking or rubbing it will introduce more bacteria. The docs likely will not lance it. You'll get antibiotics and told to keep it elevated and use hot compresses to reduce the swelling, thus reducing the pain.

Go to urgent care after work. Good luck, homey.
 
I would just POP it if it was me (done it couple of times before without any problems but YMMV)

yes, it will hurt while you are trying to POP it but make sure you clean it all and later use some alcohol or hydrogen peroxide (just in case) and cover it up for a day or two with a bandaid.

No, i'm an amateur mma fighter. I've had some hellish bruises on my arms, legs, chest, and face from time to time. Right now I have a handprint with fingers bruises on my left bicep.
