Infamous Second Son

We don't seem to have a thread for this so I'll start one to keep comments and posts out of the official PS4 thread from clogging up that area.

So I ended up getting this today and I'm quite impressed with the game. To say the least I was not really into the first two Infamous games on PS3. I played the first one and a bit of the second and I thought they were ok.

Second son has references to the previous games but you do not need to know anything from the other story of the last 2 games. I'm quite early in the game, I've started over to choose the good side. You can select between evil or good in the beginning. Throughout, your actions such as rescuing civilians or killing them build toward your good meter vs evil and so on.

Effects are great, controls seem kind of fluid, jumping around can be a bit clunky but I suppose its just me not being used to it yet. You can climb on to most buildings/railings and so on. The environment looks great too. There are quite a few side missions such as graffiti and if you are evil you have to kill musicians since the game tells you they are annoying. Found that kind of odd.

The powers are similar to the previous games and there are a few new ones. You gain powers through smoke or shards that you collect from shooting down little drones or disabling power couplers. From then on you can level up your powers.

The install took about 3-4 minutes and then there is an initial download file that starts up when the game begins, which when it was completed I exited the game and let that install before continuing to play. So far I like the game a lot. Here are some of the recent reviews:

There are plenty more. A few concerns are due to the same style of gameplay from the previous games. Not being able to choose your destiny (evil vs good) throughout the game, only selecting it at the beginning. Also you can not switch between powers it seems without getting them from a source. I have not actually gained many powers yet so I can't comment much on that.

Reviews, not great but solid, almost like the first inFamous games. I really enjoyed the previous two so I'm sure I'm going to love these.

Just watched some gameplay. Looks pretty fun.

Would definitely want to try a demo first though.

Yea I didn't see a demo on the store page. Maybe there will be one later. It's not as easy as remember from the first infamous game.

Looks like I won't be playing this anytime soon. My dumbass walmart didn't get it in, and the nearest store is 80 miles away. I may just order it on amazon and try to get it in tomorrow.

cant decide good or evil first! I think I'm gonna go evil
If I remember, it is easier to go through on good on lower level since the powers are geared towards taking down one enemy, where with evil you just destroy anything moving, including regular people on the street.

I couldn't get into the games they made before. I did watch a gameplay video of it and the effects look pretty sweet.

When I did titanfall, it took almost 12 hours and that game was only 16 gigs. I can't wait until I move since the internet in our new town starts at 50 megs.

oh ouch, yeah that would suck. i thought though they said you could start playing after a partial download/install with both the ps4/x1 though didnt they?

I think that feature has yet to be implemented. Although they did mention something about pre loading in April. I'm about to start playing now on the good side. Was playing dead nation while it was installing some update file.

They may have changed some things, but in the last one I found it easier to go evil. Basically you don't give a hoot about splash damage or friendly fire as civilian casualties pushes you to the more evil levels quicker. I remember having to be really careful where I was throwing and aiming things as a good guy or risk hitting people, which would drag you away from the next level of "good". At least that's how I remember it. I had a lot more fun being evil just because I didn't have to be so careful with my grenades and such.

Picked up my collectors edition this morning, but won't get to play until late tonight or tomorrow. Its unbearable. 🙂

I loved the first two and can't wait to start this one.

The game is gorgeous. Absolutely a worthy title graphically.

Also noteworthy is an audio profile for the PS Gold Wireless Headset built into the game. I have it set on home theater and they make decent use of the surround channel and sub.

I'll try that audio profile tonight.

I haven't played the first two, so this will all be new to me.

The beginning touches a bit on the story of the first two, but it's a completely different character and really has no bearing on the previous games (at least so far for me). I think there are supposed to be some "bonus" missions that have something to do with the first two, but not sure.

Yea I'm not sure what the limited edition has. That is the one I have and there is an insert for some origami paper trail missions. I'm gonna link them to my account soon. I think I got about 17% through the game so far.

Limited Edition has the extra missions (for free) that fill in what happened between Infamous 2 and Second Son (the Cole stuff).

EDIT:

Oh, and I don't see a demo on the PSN Store through my phone. 🙁
