Why would that cause holes with temperature differential instead of long cracks that refreeze though?

Ummm...look at it guys....it's a elongated slit that is warm and inviting. It's obviously the lake's vagina.

How do you kill yourself in 20 feet of water on a snowmobile???? I believe the whole fault thing, in highschool I remember hearing that even when those plates are moving at their slowest, they create large amounts of heat from the friction (this is also how most volcanos bust one off :p, lots of plate friction). The water idea is pretty believeable to.
