inexpensive high resolution tablet?

I want a tablet. For a simple purpose really. I want to read PDF files on it. Otehr formats are a plus. I've seen some in the low $100s with 800x600 screens that were 7". That's not bad.

Is it possible to get a tablet that is closer to 1080p or 1080p for under $200? Color not required but good grey scale (256+ shades) is required if not color.

Or are prices higher for something like this?

I do see that the 1st gen iPads are $400 now (or was it $300?). Wouldn't mind one of those but not for that price.

Nook Color was $200 at one point, save up if you can and go that route (assuming it goes on sale again).

Both iPad's resolution are 1024x768.

For the what the OP wants, its not available yet. Best option is the Nook Color right now, possibly the Galaxy Tab WiFi for a hundred dollars more.

You can find a number of the Chinese Android tablets in that price range, but they all have 800x480 screens, and dubious software support.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer (TF101) is 1280x800, IPS (glossy), and around $400 for the 16GB model. It supposedly is coming out at the end of the month.

That's a far cry from 1080P, but it's the best you're going to do at the moment.

Amazon and a few other places are selling the Viewsonic gTablet for 280 right now. Not quite what you're looking for, but you're not going more powerful for that price.

You will need to root it though, Viewsonic's Tap 'N' Tap UI is worse than Blur and TouchWiz combined.

There were a few pre-rooted nook colors for sale in the FS/FT section.

I am loving mine, with Phiremod CM7 6.0.
