Inexpensive GQ Notebook at Fry's online only

Looks 2B a decent deal for an inexpensive notebook - it's $849 at the B&M.

Funny that the one sent in email to me was the same price with half the ram, smaller HD. Pays to look around.

I'm gonna have to go into the B&M and take a look at the monitor because the HP box I was tempted for just a had a svck screen. I'm hoping the TFT really means something nice to look at.

Anyways, if anyone has feedback about the GQ line or this model in particular I'd love to hear it.

That laptop is an absolute POS. Flimsy built, heavy, ugly. You can score a Dell at the same price.

Gotta linky to the Dell deal?

Particular to getting a bright, crisp monitor -- as noted earlier some are just awful on the eyes. I need more than just an email machine, but, of course, I don't want to pay more. 🙂

What I really liked about the deal here is the following:

This notebook offers 15" XGA TFT LCD Display.

Anyways, I appreciate the feedback but would be doubly appreciative if you can show me the Dell machine you say meets the needs at the same price point.

the GQ brand name stands for "Great Quality" and is anything but. I bought some of the GQ dvd+r's a few months back and they're garbage. half of them, my burner wouldn't even recognize as being in the drive, and the others play like crap in every player. beware.

What is Fry's doing selling this junk? I remember several years back you could pretty much trust everything you bought from there.

I'm not sure if this GQ is the same company as the battery maker named GQ. But GQ batteries are actually not too shabby. I've had 4 NiMH 1600mAh AA's running strong for a few years even after dropping them a few times onto a hardwood floor. That being said, I don't think laptops are their strong point.

Yes, I love my IBM thinkpad. But with the THINK line being sold to China (Lenovo, specifically), I predict the ThinkPad quality will be flushed down the toilet in an instant... 🙁
