I know that this is off most of the recent posted topics about cooling and such, but I think that this is the right place to post. Does anybody have any recommendations for a cheap ATX midtower case? I'm not looking for anything special, just a generic case with a 250W powersupply. It's for a computer for my grandfather, an Asus CUSL2 with a P3 667 - it will not be overclocked. 2 external 5.25" bays and a external bay for a floppy and zip are preferred (I think their both 3.5" bays?!). I'd like to have some that are under $30-40 shipped - or should I just bite the bullet and go for a more expensive case like the Enlight 7237 that sharky recommends? Thank you all in advance!

Remember! You get what you pay for;)

The trouble with those "El Cheapo" cases is allot of them are made using a very thin, (cheap) sheet metal, and along with all the sharp edges, many of the chassis' where the mainboard sits, are warped, or the screw holes don't line up right, not to mention bad ventilation.

The man to talk to is Jim Hanson, jfhanson@hansonslan.org, he'll be able to hook you up with a great case, at a very good price.

Good luck

I would recommend spending the extra few bucks to get a solidly built case. I would usually recommend the Antec 282 with 300 watt PS, but I can't since you may need 2 3.5 bays. I think the Enlight 7237 has the 2 3.5 bays you need so I would say look for that for about $50, and try to get free shipping. Free shipping can be a biggie. I have paid upwards of $30 for shipping a case before I started being the bargain snooper I am now. Onvia and staples both offer free shipping, and have had both listed on their sites recently although I can't seem to find a link at staples.

I have the CS-917PX (http://a-pro.com/ATX917.htm) and am quite happy with it. Two fan 'ports' in the back, both sides are easily removable, 6 drive bays (2 3.5"'s, 4 5.25"'s) and lots and lots of holes for ventilation. Not too shabby-looking either.

It's going for $36 at that website; I bought it locally for $50 CDN. Shipping and handling at the above site is not free, though. Good luck in your search.

I thought about a cheap case for my second PC but end up purchasing an Enlight 7237. It's a great case... I got it from Egghead. I was a little disappointed that the case is not as thick as my Inwin 500.
