Indy 500: Such BS

The PC (ABC) media is obviously pissed that Danica lost, but despite that, they are treating her like the winner, almost ignoring the real winner!

This is something you would never see watching Formula 1. In F1, the first three finishers park their cars, walk up to the podium, receive their trophies, stand for the anthems, and that's it. No PC BS!

She did okay, but she lost! Get over it!

that's because they know the only reason half the people watched this race was because of her.

also, i thought that last lap was really lame. should've changed like nascar i believe.

And...?

They spent the whole race talking about her, it seems like they could have spent a little bit of time talking about Wheldon. Just giving some background and the like. I feel like I've known Patrick her whole life which is far better than I really wanted to.

Trust me, if she wasn't hot, it wouldn't be like this.

Exactly.

I still can't believe that the IRL doesn't have regulations for total weight of the car + driver. I wonder if she would've done so well with 50lbs of ballast added.

Whats with the announcers too? You'll remember where you were at when a woman led the Indianapolis 500 when its 50 years from now. He compared it to Amelia Aerhart.

It's not some "PC left-wing conspiracy" folks, its just ratings. Hell, my parents were asking me about the race because of her, and they never, ever follow racing. I'm guessing ratings were up sharply this year because of Danica too. That said, she finished fourth and now rightly so they are interviewing Wheldon and Andretti.

But as long as American networks are run by multi-billion dollar corporations, they are going to care about the ratings. The reason is doesn't happen in F1 is because they can focus on presentation, being shown mostly on government-run stations.

They weren't ignoring him, they were waiting until he got his car pushed to the winner's circle, because he ran out of gas. They didn't show her after that.

Uhh, no. As soon as that yellow came down ABC focused on Andretti and his story and Wheldon and "pubs are open in the UK", only going back to Danica when she came out of the car, then quickly going back to the winner. Whenever someone loses in a final showdown, they always go back to the loser and ask "what happened?"

But yeah the print media will be all over the fact she "almost" won.

You're probably right, but it's beneficial to the sport much like Anna Kournikova was beneficial to women's tennis (even though she wasn't even terribly good relative to other professional women's tennis players... Martina Hingis on the other hand was good AND hot).

Well, also, they couldn't interview Wheldon since someone had to push him manually to victory lane and they needed SOMETHING to fill in that time!

Nothing better than Danica

they were focusing on the story and main draw of the afternoon... but that doesn't mean they ignored the winner. I think he got plenty of airtime after he won. You wanted more of him before he won ? What about the other 31 drivers ? Not gonna happen. For those who never watched racing before, Danica was the main attraction (for obvious reasons) BUT it's not like she didn't earn it seeing how she did so well in qualifying. The main idea here is to draw more people to your broadcast. They're lucky there's a hot chick doing so well for many years to come...
