Indiana parents upset over 'structured' recess

so who thinks this is a good idea? on recess instead of free play you have to do what the schools says. If you do not you get in trouble.

Personally I thin its fucking insane. recess is a time to run to have fun. to even make up stupid games that kids enjoy playing or swinging if you chose too. the school is wrong and hope the backlash continues.

I guess I'm just confused, but the way I remember it PE class was for those games/activities and recess was for sitting down and eating my snack while talking to my friends.

Up north here when there was snow that plowed into piles we would play "King of the Mountain" - The game where you try to get to the top while being pushed down from the top. We would also throw snowballs at each other. I think back it was how we tested our limits so you learn not to do things that will get you killed.

We played king of the mountain too, it was awesome. We played it on regular steep hills as well, lots of fun. I never won...

perky you didn't get out much as a kid did you? that is a game kids played. at least when i was younger.

I love king of the mountain. i was good at it. having wrestled since i was 6or so i knew how to beat even bigger guys. of course if they got a hold of me i was a gonner..

oh hell no. I remember playing 4 square (loved that game), 500 with footballs, playing with hacki sacks and touch back.

that was a game where we used raquetball's. you throw it against the wall if you tried to catch it and missed you had to run to the wall before someone nailed you with the ball. If they hit you they got to hit you again. if they missed you got to hit them. l

I just said it a couple posts above, it's not coincidence that nehalem picks that one game to bring up.

Yep. That's the way it was... The idea was to take a break during the day, and structured activity with mandatory participation isn't it.

What should happen here is that parents should tell their kids to not participate. What exactly will the school do if every kid refuses to participate?
