Wow. I loved this film. Not just cause I'm in anthropology but because it combined all the crazy crackpot theories that have been floating around into an awesome flick!

What did everyone else think of it? Seeing Indy survive a nuclear blast was worth the 10 dollars in and of itself.
 
I dunno, it'll take me a few days to digest what i just saw...aliens? seriously, that's the best you could come up with? I don't know if that sits well with me. First 1.5 hours = classic genius Indy. Last 30 minutes = oooooooh, look at what ILM can do.

As much as I hate that myth it is a pervasive one among pseudoscience people - especially ones interested in archeology. I thought it was kinda cool - I mean we had the face melting nazis, why not interdimensonal stephen hawking type beings? 😛

The speech on knowledge at the end clenched it though.
 
It was good but not great, my least favorite of the indy movies but still an enjoyable romp. The 3 waterfall thing bugged me a LOT since they made it over all 3 perfectly fine and the boat was not even dented. Also some of the magnetic things bugged me too like how the soldiers dog tags were moving towards the box but not their guns, belts, etc... I know its minor.

One thing I loved was seeing the ark of the covenant when the one box fell it was a great nod to the old films.

I do believe the story could have been a bit better, but have no real qualms with the aliens except it just seemed a bit out of indiana jones canon. I have wastched all the young indiana jones, read the books, seen the movies dozens of times, and it just did not sit right with me. I feel like the Indy movies have always had a religious push toward a higher truth and such, temple of doom not so much but last crusade and ark definitely, I guess I wish it was more of a religious find (something like the spear of destiny.)

I did not like the intro with the gopher and shia speeding past the people it seemed very tacked on. I much would have preferred it starting with him lecturing in school, maybe some wise ass kid cracking about what does he know, and then segway into the story.

That all said I give it a 7/10.
 
had higher expectations for it, but overall it wasn't bad. they definitely kept the spirit of the old movies though...

I must admit that seeing Bush bite it on a Segway cracks me up every time!

It's even better to watch the guy who made fun of bush relentlessly in his column for crashing on a segway bite it on his own segway.
 
I felt like some of the scenes were contrived and forced to give a nod to the earlier movies. Some parts of the movie just didn't flow very naturally. I wasn't really impressed with aliens in the storyline either, and I felt there was a plot disconnect at times.

The movie needed to be longer and more detail given and the chemistry between Indiana and his enemies wasn't really there this time. Cate Blanchett did an incredible job, but there wasn't a really good connection between her and Indiana -- or even the plot.

Probably my second to least favorite. I think it is better than Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it doesn't compare to Temple of Doom or the Last Crusade.
 
The worst of all the Indy movies. Not much in the way of bad guys, acting was bad but there wasn't much to do with the horrible script I guess. The movie just didn't flow and you never felt particularly scared or excited. The laughs were weak at best, I think I may have chuckled once, but it was probably forced.

Crusade - 10/10
Ark 9/10
Temple of Doom 6/10
Skull 4/10

I have no desire to ever see it again.

I kinda feel the opposite about the films (if I'm reading what your saying correctly). I felt like Indy was always able using rationality, science, and logic to find truth (aka knowledge) and leaving it at that, not getting caught up into the pseudo-religous-scientific pursuit of these "mystical" things and then getting your face melted off.

Thats why I found the nod to the pseudoscience surrounding the alien myths to be quite funny. People like Erich Von Daniken (look him up, a guy who thinks that all the world's cultures came from an alien entity) would probably love the concept of the aliens in Indy, but Indy's speech at the end about knowledge being the most important pursuit and thing (as the mythical city collapsed into nothingness) was great.

I can see how some Indy fans would hate it though. Even I found the alien combo a little strange - but I think it fit with the Cold War/McCarthy/50s theme better then it would have with the Nazis.

[Edit] From a historical standpoint they were pretty spot on in this film with their academic/political history involving archeology too - so in my mind that was cool.

Ugh. Just got back from it. I'm not quite sure what to think. Lots of little things to nitpick. It didn't feel like a typical Indy flick. Too much CGI and not enough practical effects and stunts. I typically have no issue with CGI, but for an Indy film, it just didn't fit too well. The story was silly with the aliens. I did not like seeing the ark in the warehouse. I would have preferred them hinting at it somehow and knowing that it was there in a vast sea of crates.
 
as someone else has stated, the first 1:30 was classic indy and was great. It was the ending that just kind of ruined it all... I mean what was the point of all that swirling and crap- it was like CG for the sake of CG. I definitely would have preferred a more low-key, believable ending. Regardless, Harrison Ford looked much better at the end than in the beginning of the movie, as people gradually began to accept that he looked old but still flashed alot of his old vintage self throughout the film.

I thought the movie had minimal CGI and Ford did his own stunts to give it that realistic feel.
Thats what WIKI says at least lol
 
there really weren't that many stunts, and neither were there that many in the originals. Indy always had a very amateurish flailing style of fighting that is consistent and well within his abilities.

Anyway, the movie was pretty good, although some parts I could have done without ie the monkey/swinging from the trees part.
 
There was no believability at all in the movie. Start out with an insanely powerful magnetic field that only affects some metal, Indiana surviving a nuclear bomb by hiding in a fridge, then on to the whole inter-dimensional alien bit...

The original movies are believable. For comparison, I think Stargate and The Fifth Element are also believable (at least for the time while you're watching the movie, that is). Indy 4, not so much.

Oh well, at least this new movie had Janitor in it. 😉

Yeah, it affected ferrous and non-ferrous metals...sometimes. And it repels ants. It was magic. You know, because it was a half-living, alien, crystal skull.

Your opinion is null and void because of your last sentence. I am sorry but Raiders and Crusade were great movies with Raiders being the best in the series.

I believe this movie was a notch above Temple of Doom but not by much. The movie did not flow well. The acting wasn't great.

The alien thing was stupid. And there are whole pieces of the plot that make zero sense.

I didn't really like the "alien" thing either. Didn't seem to fit the Indy tradition IMHO. And the ending with the long drawn-out special effects was lame. My favorite part was the lengthy jungle chase scene.
