Yep. See the link in my sig.

IIRC, the rights to produce the DVD was in contention between Lucasfilm and Paramount. I think Paramount won though.

Apparently that wasn't the only thing that was in contention.

From The Digital Bits:
Here's some interesting news today for you... director Steven Spielberg was interviewed by The Wall Street Journal last week about Minority Report, Indy 4 and his new film, Catch Me If You Can. During the discussion, he mentioned the possibility of Raiders on DVD - here's the relevant passage:

Q. "E.T." is finally out on DVD after a long wait. Fans of Indiana Jones are hoping "Raiders of the Lost Ark" won't be far behind, but Paramount is mum. Can you fill us in?

A. We're aiming for next fall. George Lucas and I are having an argument with Paramount. Paramount wants to come out with all three [Indiana Jones] movies in one package. George [writer and producer of "Raiders"] and I want to come out with one film at a time and then come out with all three movies, and maybe even the fourth one, in one package later. (Paramount says there is no argument and discussions are ongoing.)

You're buying at the wrong places. I think I paid about $25-30 for the Back to the Future trilogy. dvdboxoffice.ca

Yeah definitely. I only paid $25 at Walmart for the BTTF Trilogy.

I'm still waiting for Star Wars boxed set.

Keep waiting...Lucas and Spielberg found 'some time off' and put this together but still no word on the original 3 Star Wars films. But, for those, if it's only going to be those lame-ass 'Special Ed'itions, I won't be buying.

But, this is good news indeed as these will be untouched versions! Well...remastered but not edited!

I read the same thing somewhere. Lucas is an ass....the original versions of the Eps 4-6 did not need to be tinkered with. He's just a pompus ass who will keep playing with the movies until he ends up runing them. These days he is totally out of touch and is chruning out garbage that is soiling the Star Wars name.

Thank God I have 2 VHS box sets of the original movies before Lucas special editioned them to death.

Well, if you think Lucas is an ass now...
I remembering reading that episodes 4-6 on DVD will be "tweaked" so as better to mesh w/1-3. So we'll end up having 3 versions of the Original Trilogy (theater cut, Special edition cut, and "tweaked for episodes 1-3" cut on DVD).

If you have VHS copies you might as well figure out a way to xfer them to DVD or something 'cause that's probably the only way you'll be able to watch the original cut of ANH, ESB, or RotJ 20 years from now. :(

If it is it's not authorized... it's most likely ripped from Laserdisc and then copied to DVD.

If you consider Hong Kong piracy distribution channels "pretty readily" :)
