Indian Moon Probe Hits Moon Surface at 3,100 MPH

NO! Keep them out, I do not need competition from very hard working families! O_O Nor do I need people who speak English so badly.

They also landed on the moon & are taking pics/video sorta like we did on Mars. I believe their equipment also contains a mass spectrometer.

The other countries are catching up to our technology... they may even be passing us. We sit back & gloat that we're #1 in the world & do nothing to maintain that position, electing a president who ignores his scientists. (Hopefully Barack will be MUCH better; I can't imagine it's possible to be any worse than Bush.)

Nonetheless, I'll point it out again. The U.S. isn't #1 in the world in math or science - those areas that lead to the most innovation. The top 25% of students in China & the top 25% of students in India are each more than ALL of the students in North America.

Oh, and in case you didn't notice, China's already conducted spacewalks. Meanwhile, we say "we're #1" and do very little to advance our technology.

Maybe, China and India would be better spending their money on raising the standard of living of their people than on space exploration.

Well with that spacewalk I heartily welcome China to US circa 1965.

NASA/JPL hasn't been just standing around since Gemini/Apollo not doing anything.

Moon is "been there, done that" for us.

China and India are barely developing anything of their own, they just use the technologies we and Russians have created long time ago.

Also, we never slammed our Moon probes at 3100 MPH. 🙂

We could've landed a man on Mars in the 1970's but it would've been a hell of a lot of money.

Yes, but what have we done since (besides build a barely reliable space shuttle)? We gotta continually do new shit, rather than take credit for shit people did a generation ago.

Yeah but the soviets did.

space program was cool in the Cold War days

now, prefer funding be spent on developing technology instead of launching stuff into space

We have to catch them terrorists. A few piss ants camel riders living in mud huts are way more of a threat to us than China or the OPEC countries now moving into high tech arenas beyond selling oil. We need to increasing spending to $25B/month to get them terrorists.

Mission Accomplished!!!!!!

Isn't that how the US and Russia got started by using German rocket technologies?

True dat, but who's gonna pay for it?

Everyone already bitches about their taxes being too high. I'm not gonna try to equate days/weeks/years in Iraq to the cost of space programs, but IMO, the money pissed (and bled) away in that FUBAR'd war would make a HUGE dent in the cost of sending people to Mars or ??

I think our technology could do it, it's the funding we lack.
