NEW DELHI (Reuters) - An Indian rape victim is being forced by village elders to "marry" her rapist -- her father-in-law, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Community leaders in Charthawal village, backed by local Muslim clerics, believe that by being raped, 28-year-old Imrana's 10-year marriage has been nullified under Islamic law, The Asian Age newspaper said.

You know, there HAS to be more to this story, can't be this simple and straightforward. Whatever the case is, they're doing something I'm 99% sure they aren't happy about and will regret it later!

Hate the village elders, not the religion. Nowhere in the Quran does it say "Rape a woman, and take her as your own!!!1!" Just like the bible doesn't say it's OK to molest choir boys.

:thumbsup: "Village elders"... that's all they are. Sadly these things happen in that region due to a serious lack of education in the rural areas.

Another example would be the case of Mukhtar Mai in neighbouring Pakistan. A "tribal council" ordered her rape because of a crime commited by her brother! Because he had already fled and was nowhere to be found, a group of men (related to the jury at the tribal council) gangraped her. Heartbreaking, but it's happening.
