Indian Firms May Develop Iranian Seaport

Indian Firms May Develop Iranian Seaport
By VIVEK RAGHUVANSHI, NEW DELHI

As part of New Delhi?s strategic agreement with Iran, a consortium of Indian companies is negotiating with Iran?s Port and Shipping Organization to develop the Iranian port of Shahid Beheshti. Sources in the Indian Defence Ministry said the work would allow warships to anchor there.

Once an agreement is concluded, India?s private-sector engineering companies, Mumbai-based Ashok Leyland Project Services and Larsen & Toubro, would build two docks to serve ships of up to 150,000 metric tons at Shahid Beheshti, in Iran?s Chabahar province.

An Indian Defence Ministry official said Dec. 27 that India is developing Iranian ports as part of a strategy that would give New Delhi an alternative route to Central Asia, through Afghanistan.

In January 2003, India and Iran crafted their first strategic alliance, which includes Indian use of Iranian military bases in the event of a war between Pakistan and India.

Iran?s Shahid Beheshti is near Pakistan?s military seaport, Gawadar, which Islamabad is developing with the help of China.

Sources with Larsen & Toubro said work on the Iranian project likely would begin in the next two to three months and be complete by the end of 2006.

Iran and Pakistan are not great allies at all nor are they enemies. They are just on peaceful terms. Iran has more contracts with Indian firms than it does with Pakistani firms. Iran and India also work together in a lot of fields.

They do differ in opinions. Pakistan supported the Taliban and Iran supported the NA.

I don't know if this means anything, but Pakistan's navy was allowed to dock in Iran last week.

Or a non-Islamic state help a Islamic state against a non-Islamic state or something.

Religion is just a cover for these people to get away with what they do, if they truly believed in their religion, the Saudi princes wouldnt party with babes in western countries and spend the night drinking. This is just one example

Well that's arguable... Iraq was secular at the time of the war.
