whats a FOB according to american born desis ? as far as I know FOB = someone who dosnt know how to interact with the opp sex and is desperate to do so. but most of the american born desis call indian immigrants as fobs ( like thier parents, or thier 5yr childhood if they spent in india) no wonder they are confused, its sad but true. i am sorry to bring this up, coz it might start a debate or flames over it. but isnt that what these "FEW ABCDS" call thier parents or grandparents as FOBs. wonder why these few generalize so much, same thing goes for this idiotic indian born desis, who generalize american borns as ABCDs.

coming back to the deal, can anyone list a good set of dvds to buy from this website ???

thanks,

Too much of a bulk buy for me but for those who like them go for it.

any other good sites with coupons?

By the way.

Too many generalisations here about Indian Girls - especially those about the 'majority' being 'ugly'.

Too many arrogant people born with a silver spoon in their mouths that spout there ignorance and lack of wisdom.

I think those that characterize FOB's in derogatory terms should ask their parents to describe their grandparent or great grandparents.

THose that characterize ABCDS badly should look at behaviour and loss of culture back in India.

SOme immature people should start thinking with their brains instead of their little heads - grow up.

Maybe take their silver spoons out of their bums and open their eyes a bit.

again, you can buy just one DVD from this place if you want...

*IF* you buy $300 worth, there is an additional 'wholesale' discount.

I have brought several dvd's from indiaweekly over the past year. Have had no problems at all so far.
One of the dvds wouldnt play on my player and they refunded me the money no questions asked.

Pretty fast shipping too. Have recceived all my shipments within a week from ordering it. I think they have some kinda membership too where you get additional 10-15% discounts over the regular price.
Membership is around 15 bux for a year.

Hello Brother,
If Jackie Chan wants to make a film in India, that's because of the popularity he has in India. Not because he loves Hindi movies. If Hollywood movies are made from the books, the studios are paying lots of money to the authors. we are not doing any of that. We are just copying movies. Plainly. From all possible sources. We don't pay royalties to the tunes we pick from English music either. That's very sad. If we do have to pay ..then we will make better music or films. If your American colleagues like to goto Hindi movies OFTEN then there is something wrong with their memory. How do they distinguish one film from the other. Because all the movies have the same story line almost.
yes .. Lagaan is an good flick. With an industry churning out that many films .. why aren't we making films like Lagaan all this time ? why is a small country like Iran able to produce excellent films ?

HepDude, Even Mani Rathnam wouldn't think Dil Se isn't that good a movie. It was a flop. Story was weak.

And regarding the Indian chics .. If you think that indian chics are pretty then you haven't been to europe, especially Paris. 10% of indian women are pretty. And all the women you guys mentioned earlier are part of the few 10%. For the record .. I am an indian chic too. But I am neither ABCD or FOB :)

Well to me, a FOB is an Indian born and raised in India. An ABCD is an Indian born and raised in America. Indians born in India that came to a US at a young age are not FOBs in my opinion. I came to the US when I was a year old. I can relate more to ABCDs than FOBs for obvious reasons. FOBs also tend to stick together and therefore many of them remain very close minded. I know families of Indians that came to the US 20 years ago, but they refuse to allow their children to play with white kids. Even if their kids were born here. As for the not being able to talk to girls comment...thats definitely something uniquely FOB. Many FOBs don't like when girls go out in revealing clothing. ABCD girls often think that FOBs are psycho and controlling. Its just cultural differences.

Either way...the personalities and habits of most Indians is completely dependent on the company they keep.

Perfect response.

On another note, why is it that FOBs can't get used to taking showers? I remember being so embarassed in college when I was told the story of how my friend's mom carpooled a little Indian girl who had BO all the time. Similarly, my wife and I will be at the grocery store and an Indian or Indian couple will walk by and we'll both end up wrinkling our noses and she'll ask me what the problem is with Indians not taking baths. Thank goodness my parents are FOBs that take/took baths.

By the way, thanks for the site. I haven't checked it out yet, but my parents will probably be interested. None of us generally can stand Hindi movies, but if they have Bengali ones, my parents may want them.

I think they take baths but don't use deodorant. For some reason, Indians sweat a lot.

Please no flames!

greenant - you need to take life a little bit easy. Firstly, did you find out how many films Iran makes a year, probably 1/100th of Indian Films released a year. And hey, one of my American colleagues have his own TV show, he actully started growing the interest in others for watching Indian(Hindi) films. And its from him I get these stats, since he is totally into these things. I beleive, if all films were Lagaans it would be very boring watching those films, I would like to sit back after a long day at work and watch a movie that doesn't try to teach me anything, just some stupid storyline, some songs, some fights..that's all. Formula movies still make money in India. It's all in the treatment.

I am an Indian-born male who came to this country fifteen years ago.

I think both cultures (American and Indian) have a lot to offer to mankind. Unfortunately, Indian films is not one of them.

Indians might be good software programmers (I am one) ... but making sensible movies is not our forte.

But that was no so a few years back. During the days of Gandhi, V.K. Menon, Sarojini Naidu etc ... we had people who were well-read and consequently capable of making movies like Satarang Ke Kilhari, Aakrosh (sp?) etc. Sadly, those days are gone.

The fact that the majority of the so-called educated Indians who frequent this forum, cannot write a proper sentence (look at the earlier posts) is proof of the shift in our priorities.

I yearn for the culture that flourished during the likes of Gandhi (when asked what he thought of Western Civilization ... he quipped: "Its a good idea"). Ironically, its the western influence that has allowed mediocrity to prevail. Indians are trying hard to emulate a culture that does not mesh well with the moral and ethical standards that our forefathers thrust on us.

We are self-destructing a culture in a couple of decades ... that took centuries to build.

The results are seen in films we now produce in India. Gone are the days of Raj Kapoor, Raj Kumar, Naseerudhin Shah (sp?) ... we are left with heros who look like eunuchs with squeeky voices going after women in outfits that would make the girls in a Calcutta brothel blush.

---------
I have to add that the one of the most tragic oversight on the part of the indian film industry was not preserving the old movies. Can you imagine watching an anamorphic widescreen version of Pakeezah on your large-screen television. Or Mugleh-Azam (sp?) for that matter. I feel very sad.

Hello Brother, That's exactly my point too. If a country with small number of movies can produce so many good movies, why not a country with hundreds of movies every year ? West Bengal does produce some good movies. But they hardly come out of the State. Indian movies are not just mindless .. they are very melodramatic. Mind you, I have nothing against indian movies. I do watch them. But i watch lot of movies from other countries.

Thanks... as a kid I wrote a novellette with a airforce pilot as the hero... and that was his nickname in the Indian Airforce (in my book). It stuck for all my forceful writings after that. I use a different name for all my poetry though. Glad u like it.
