ok that's South Indian films...a lot of them are like that. I mean they had an entire movie about how a guy's life would change if he had missed a bus or something like that.

Most Indian movies are the same - Hindi or regional. If anything, Hindi movies set the trend for a lot of this crappy stuff. Telugu movies were over-the-top period and family dramas for a long time but have become more contemporary in the last few years. Frankly, it's a little more realistic than Superman or X-Men in concept, though in execution, the difference is to be expected. I would say it is like the difference between public restrooms in the US and the few ones you find in India - they are both full of crap, but in the West they are at least relatively safe to use ;)

I have only watched good Indian movies personally, but I guess that's because I have for the most part avoided any Bollywood movies. In fact, some of the best movies I've ever seen are Indian, courtesy of Satyajit Ray. Mira Nair has made some good movies too.

What about Punjabi movies? I've heard of that region of India and people there speak a distinct language. I have to read up my stuff on India.

I don't agree. There are no Hindi movies like Jeans for example.

But there are tons of crappy Hindi movies though...but there are some really good ones as well.

My favorites being: Company, Ek Haseena Thi, Tein Deewarien, Satya, Road, Darna Maana Hai, Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Iqbal, etc...these are just the ones that popped in my head.

You guys should check them out, they all come with subtitles and are pretty good flicks. No cheese.
