Condoms? Maybe that's why the birthrate is so low in Japan? What in tarnation does Japan need nearly 21 THOUSAND 7-11's for ??
I'll grant they probably put some more TLC in the preparation of the products to satisfy the more demanding Japanese palette. On the other hand:I saw some video a couple weeks ago about those Japanese versions. They have some super sushi in them, IOW a lot better eating than I figure you are going to find in a US 7-11. I haven't been in any for many years.
The walkability factor might matter. The logistics of Japan (being cramped and densely populated as it is) means a lot of people do not need to log miles like wide open America.( The city dwellers who are carless have to have their food supply satisfied walking to the store. What in tarnation does Japan need nearly 21 THOUSAND 7-11's for ??

My neighbor who did my grocery shopping before I was vaxxed called me one day and said they were eating sushi, had extra, would I like some? I replied that I wasn't into sushi (true). Mostly I'm not high on Japanese cuisine. I really like tempura, have made my own many times, also make my own teriyaki sauce (easy, AFAIK it's just soy sauce, ginger, garlic and sugar), with which I make beef teriyaki, but sushi or sashimi, never have gotten off on them.I'll grant they probably put some more TLC in the preparation of the products to satisfy the more demanding Japanese palette. On the other hand:
If that video is any indication, the only difference between Asian and Western is how the macros of starch and sugar are made, not whether it's consumed and sold in convenience stores. The mouth will need a serious cleaning and rinsing after eating any of the featured foods.
Also , if it's raw sushi, then it's asking for a parasite like tapeworm.
Up to a point, rice will always be rice.

No wonder I stumbled across a Japanese dental practice uploading dental cleaning videos and there is no lack of content up to the present day.

I seem to recall back in the 80's McDonalds was halfway decent. They started slipping in the 90's and just got worse every year.Living in Berkeley and eating at McDonald’s would be a sin , so many good restaurants there.
they're bigger on speed and convenience than most nations and mostly all they have is 7-11.What in tarnation does Japan need nearly 21 THOUSAND 7-11's for ??

If you replaced every Sheetz, Wawa, PDQ, Rocs, Super America, Circle K, AM/PM, and Racetrack with a 7-11, there would be one hundred thousand of them.
I think it's at Lawson where Bourdain loved the egg salad sandwiches which was in his episode.Never seen Sheetz, Wawa, PDQ, Rocs, Super America, and Racetrack on the west.
Japan has another big chain store - Family Mart. 3rd is Lawson.
By numbers: 7-11 : 21000, Family Mart: 16000, Lawson: 14000
What's Up, Tiger Lily?I think it's at Lawson where Bourdain loved the egg salad sandwiches which was in his episode.
I ended up looking up Japanese egg salad recipes.
It's a great version of egg salad.
By putting in new scenes and rearranging the order of existing scenes, he completely changed the tone of the film from a James Bond clone into a comedy about the search for the world's best egg salad recipe.

Largest 7-11 store in the world (Taiwan), even a robot in the store! 😂
The 7-11 we had around here moved out like 30+ years ago. I guess i assumed they no longer existed. Maybe 15 years ago i was somewhere & saw one & was like wow, they're still around.
7-11 always looks a little run down. Unless it's brand new, they look like you're in the wrong part of town, regardless of where it's actually located.
Northwest part of PA.Where do you live?
