India doctors remove 232 teeth from boy's mouth

Doctors in India have extracted 232 teeth from the mouth of a 17-year-old boy in a seven-hour operation.

Ashik Gavai was brought in with a swelling in his right jaw, Dr Sunanda Dhiware, head of Mumbai's JJ Hospital's dental department, told the BBC.

The teenager had been suffering for 18 months and travelled to the city from his village after local doctors failed to identify the cause of the problem.

Doctors have described his condition as "very rare" and "a world record".

😵😵😵😵

It would be nice to be able to grow new teeth after one got damaged and removed. I wonder if you could do that with stem cells?

Just curious what multi-national chemical-disposing plant is near the Buldhana district in the Amravati region...

(and that doesn't mean I'm saying Indotech Industrial Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is guilty of dumping toxic pollutants in the water that lead to human deformities either, just because they appear to be in the region.)

Yeah, that was weird. Best of luck to the kid though!

To lxskllr, I agree. That would be great to have the ability to regrow new teeth...

Meh. It's just a benign tumour forming abortive tooth-like structures. You see much worse stuff on TV on shows like Walking Dead or CSI.

That's debatable. Zombies are zombies, they're fake, and if I stare at one for long enough I may 😵 but that's about it. Realistic stuff, whether it's a smashed up tumor, particularly realistic CSI gore, or a cadaver in a lab will all make me ill. I can look at it, but not for long or blood drains from my head until I black out. It's not a matter of calm or will either. The last time I went into a cadaver lab I did all I could to prepare myself, but as soon as I actually looked at a cadaver piece my vagus nerve overruled my cerebrum and I had to walk out.

You're comparing fantasy bullshit done by makeup artists to the real world? That's silly

"Meh. He only saved one person. You see better rescues in movies like The Avengers."

Yeah I am. It's essentially just bits of teeth.

Oh god.. I can't imagine the pain the little lad would've been through. I once had a tooth extracted and it hurt like crazy, never mind the fact that it was done by final year students of dentistry instead of real dentists.

I remember the stupid fucks trying to distract me by playing Tom & Jerry cartoons in a TV in the room. 🙄

My dentist has sort of given up. He still uses a 10" (?) CRT TV + VCR combo that's been around forever, it's always showing zebras with the sound down.

On the other hand, I'm almost 30...

I'm sure he was asleep during the whole thing.

I've had extractions and they weren't that bad. I've had a few dental procedures where I told them not to numb me because I hate the way the drugs feel.
