Independence Day: The Movie

I'm watching it on AMC right now. got me to thinking. there was a poll in one of the magazines when this movie came out asking which perenial supporting actor would hit it big after this film.

Jeff Goldblum
Will Smith
Bill Pullman

it's pretty obvious by now of course that Will Smith was the guy. i seemed to remember that Goldblum lead the poll tho.

I'm not sure tho. anyone remember such a poll?

kind of interesting to think about in retrospect.

Goldblum was already big before this. (Jurassic Park) Will Smith has done the best since, and Pullman's career isn't too shabby, but not up to the other two's level.

Goldblum had about the same level of character in Jurassic Park that he did in Independence day. he wasn't the primary character.

i don't think goldblum has done even one movie where he was the main star.

obviously by now, Will smith has done many of them.

Independence Day is a fun, brainless summer flick. I remember there was talk of a sequel..any news on it?

Wasn't he the main character in The Lost World (Jurassic Park II)?

Jurassic Park (Number 1) had many stars of which goldblum was one. Sam Neil and Laura Dern were both bigger stars in the first film than GoldBlum

Jurassic Park (Number 2) came out AFTER Independence day.

yes he was, but as i posted just above, Lost world came out AFTER independence day. 😉

also, have to wonder, in Wild Wild West with Will Smith, mb Goldblum would have been a better 2nd than Kevin Klein.

"Oh no, you are NOT shooting that green sh1t at me!"

I find it funny how the entire air power of the United states seemed to be made up of F/A-18s...

Yeah and they all are kept at a small commercial airport in Nevada.

I was merely responding to:

"i don't think goldblum has done even one movie where he was the main star."
Not really thinking about the times movies were made.

Yes, I also found it odd that apparently every piece of military hardware except a few B2s and lots of F/A-18s had vanished.

I found it odd that America had the save the world alone; a computer virus could disable the entire alien command; the president of the US was an awesome fighter pilot; blah blah blah.

Right, which means that, in answer to the OP's question, Goldblum DID have a starring role in a major film AFTER ID4.

They assumed Kerry had one and dismantled the military.
