hey guys, i am having some really really really slow bootups and shut downs and i can't figure out why. here is my config:

Windows 2000
Abit NF7-S motherboard (SATA disabled)
Geforce3 Ti200 video card
Newest unified nForce drivers and Detonator drivers installed, DX9 too
2x Crucial PC2100 @ PC2700
T-bred B 1700+ @ 11 x 166 = 1.82 GHz (~2200+ speed)
80GB maxtor HD
liteon DVD
liteon CDRW
pioneer DVD-RW
6-in-1 USB2 reader

i think the culprit is the video--these superslow bootups/shutdowns didn't start until i installed DX9 and then updated the video drivers. man, i am going crazy!

What else did you update besides DX9? Have you done any windows updates since then? I noticed right after I did a windows update I was getting extremely slow shut downs. Are we talking about the same issue?

Not sure if it applies to you,
but disabling firewire in the bios or having something hooked up to it took 1min.
off the boot time on my A7N8X.

yeah, i did all of the windows updates. i disabled SATA to spped up boottime, but not the firewire. one thing i have noticed--while the computer is booting up and the progress bar on the windows splash screen is complete, the monitor for several minutes will cycle through many different refresh rates, causing the monitor to show rolling waves of color. wtf? i have a Planar 19" LCD with a DVI connection to my video card if that matters. weird stuff.

Yoda, MS recently (like 4 days ago) released a windows update that fixed my slow shutdowns. Before my shutdowns took about 5 minutes, now it's less than 60 seconds. Have you used the windows update site and gotten all of the criticals in the past few days?
