Incredible DVD playback quality from PC

I've barely started to use PowerDVD along with a DVI hookup to my Samsung DLP. It looks VERY impressive, especially when compared to the Progressive Scan Component hookup that we used before then. Of course, I have to look at the Window Media High Definition samples to remind me that the DVD picture isn't HD quality, but still. I like it a lot! 🙂
 
wow that looks sweet as hell, too bad i dont have a HTPC nor do i out put video to a TV,

will this do anything for me just watching DVDs on my computer?
 
Sweet article, and very timely too...

I spent about 2 hours this morning trying to get my Radeon 9700 PRO to display properly on my Sony 51" RPTV via DVi. Powerstrip isn't the most intuitive application for such a venture.

Hey, thanks for the article. I wonder how well I'd be able to deal with this over a network in my house, indirectly from one computer through another to the tv.
 
Not sure about PC display. I have tried the setup on my 21" CRT but with a Power DVD codec instead of the sonic codec as suggested. I noticed more graininess and missing vertical lines from the playback on my PC screen.

I am not a DVD playback or HDTV expert. However, I am aware that the resolution of a DVD is below true HDTV. If there is a way to scale up the signal without any loss of quality this guy seems to have found it.
 
I dunno, those before/after images look nice, but they really bring out the edge enhancement. Especially the Sully shot. Terrible ringing around all the edges. He has too much sharpening going on.
 
I tried it on my PC, it does work, but I was running it at 1600x1200 and I was dropping frames.
 
I just tried this on my laptop. The overall picture quality improved but the CPU resources skyrocketed and dropped frames as a result. You really need to have a fast processer to pull this off with both quality and no frame loss.
