Increasing Wireless Performance/Stability?

Hi all, I use the Linksys 802.11b Gaming Adapter to play Xbox Live, and my router is a DI-524. Usually my connection is fine, but often it is worse than everyone else, and I'm betting this is due to my connection.

Several questions...

Which way should I point the antenna is the Xbox is on the floor below the router, and about 10 feet in one direction horizontally... towards/perpendicular?

What could I do to increase performance in the settings? Decrease the TX rate... and if so, to what? Buy a new antenna? And what antenna's can I use/would you recommend?
This emulator of the router settings should help: http://support.dlink.com/emula...di524/adv_perform.html

I have no idea what most of these settings mean, but if anyone could tell me and help me out, that'd be awesome.

Leave alone these settings you can not gain any thing by changing them.

If your Wireless is used only for this connection you can try to put a directional Antenna on the D-Link and point to the X-Box.

Or if your game adaptor is connected with CAT5 cable to the Box get a longer cable and place the Game adaptor high and close to the D-Link Spot.

Sigh. yes, moving your client to something like 2 Mb can, perhaps will, clean up your signal quality. As far as your dipole orientation. It's probably going to be best vertical if both AP and client are on the same floor but just play around with it.
