OKay, i clicked on the little sound speaker icon in the task trey, bumped up the sliders to maximum (i hit properties and had it show all options)

i got a cheap 10 dollar PCI crystal sound card, the CS4280. Only prob is that its REALLY soft... i have to set the volume on my speakers cranked to 100% to hear anything and even then its still only "barely" audible...

yes its plugged into the right jack on the back of hte sound card :)

Ive tried to search for crystal sound card drivers to maybe update them, but i havnt had any luck??

This is in NT4, using the NT4 drivers that came wtih the sound card. Its not critical, this is only a server, but it would be nice if they were a tad louder.

thanks for any input.

For really good sound, get yourself a small stereo amp and connect the soundcard output to at, and then let it drive your speakers. You have complete tone controls that way . . . and can use REAL speakers as well as computer wannabees. :)

I do it with a simple Optimus from Radio Shack. If have a source for used stereo equipment . . . that's another good route. Good sound equipment pre-dates computers by a couple of generations of people. :)

My friend has the same card (Crystal fusion something?) in his shopss computer. I installed the Win98 driver from the CD, connected it to the 10$ speakers he got, and it sounds fine. Maybe yours is busted.

Do your speakers have an amp? If not you need to use your sound card as an amp. I remember in the good ole days my SB16 had a jumper to pick between amplified and line-level output. Of course on board amplification is going to be REALLY crappy, so if your speakers don't have an amp I'd wire your PC up to something that does.

will do.
or a receiver from your entertainment system
remember these sucker need to be amplified
and is not meant to drive a speaker all by itself
if you want cool bass sound get 3 piece
2 satelite and 1 boombox well worth it for only
50 bucks

Well i plugged in the new drivers, and not much difference

This is just for a server, so im not really worried about anything, just odd at how quiet it was. Ahhh well :p
