Increasing network adapter speed

I have a Belkin F5D7000 wireless 54g network adapter. After a thunderstorm about 4 days ago, my network card has been performing at 54b speed. On the signal strength, it says "excellent" (which is the very best) and has all 5 bars filled, yet the speed is only going at 11.0 Mbps. My laptap has a wireless 54g network card also, but its going at 54 Mbps. Ive tried reinstalling it from the cd, updating drivers, etc. Nothing works. Any ideas on how to fix it to make it go at its proper speed? Thanks.
